I've had a frontier and an Xterra. Frontier was an auto and had tranny issues at about 55k. Xterra was a 6 speed. Had issues with the rear axle seals and pinion seal at about 75k, cats at 90k, and rings at 100k.

On the up side, clutch and tranny were fine at 130k when I got rid of it.

Looking at trading out of my '18 Taco SR from a Frontier myself. My reason for considering the swap is purely engine/trans related. As mentioned above, the Frontier does what you tell it to do. The Taco seems to try and do what it wants first and only after it complains a bit will it do what you tell it to.

Fit and finish definitely goes to the Taco. I've seen several Frontiers where the doors don't align perfectly and window trim doesn't fit correctly. The interior in the Frontier seems cheaper, but the seats are FAR more comfortable than mine. That may not be the case with a TRD Taco though. Ride is a bit softer in the Tacoma, but I didn't find the Frontier to be bad. Frontier crew cab seems to have a bit more room in the back than the Taco double cab...which will be important as my kids grow.

Turning radious is a buzz kill on the Nissan . The gas mileage sucks also ! Otherwise it’s a good truck.

    Like, so many.
I had an 04 Frontier DCLB. I like it, it did it's job. I got stuck a few times which is why I went 4WD with my Taco. I ended up having an issues with a gasket and leaking oil that got pretty expensive. It always felt dated, but I kinda like the spartan feel. I debated pretty heavily between the Taco and the Pro4X. I do think I would have been happy with Pro4X, but the Taco, to me at least, is on another level.

I owned an '07 from 2007 - 2016. Solid truck, and I never had a serious issue. BUT from what I can tell, the 2019 looks very similar to my '07. So there's that to consider. That should be your biggest worry, since I think they're releasing a brand new redesign in 2020. You'll instantly have a outdated 20 year old truck when they do.

I will look into the frontier if they release it with the 2.8 Cummins 6MT in a base model

That would be why you could score a Frontier for less money.

Well I usually trade in every year for a fresh truck. Not too many left offering MT which is a must for me. Looked at a 2018 Ram 2500 with the Cummings diesel but price is mid $40's. Saw the Frontier at $30K and wanted some feedback. Appreciate all the info.

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
I heard nothing but great things from drivers of the Tacoma with MT. I know they are hard to find on the lot but I'm sure you can order one.

Consider the cost of a Tacoma vs a Frontier (new). No one will argue that Tacoma's doesn't have the best resale / trade-in numbers for the class of pickup. One also pays more for the Tacoma vs the Frontier new.

You can also get a frontier for 10-12k less than a trd off road tacoma with comparable options. I wouldn't and I do not like the tacoma trans.

The frontier has way more balls than the tacoma.

I looked for the same. Nissan didn't offer it in the Pro-4X so I went Toyota.

You need to go on cars.com advanced search and plug in a Frontier Manual and 2019 Pro-4x Manuals will pop up

Not sure about extended cabs, maybe they do something like Toyota and force you into a sport if you want an AC Manual.

I had a new 2014 4x4 Frontier super cab. It was a nice truck. However, the big issue was the resale value dropped very quickly. I took a big loss. It also had crappy gas mileage. The Frontier shares the same frame as the full size Nissan. They have short control arms which gives them a nutty wide turning radius. An other issue is it is a dated design and style. Various guys at my work had or have Nissan trucks or SUVs and they all ran into major repairs before 100,000 miles.

Select "All Miles" and you'll see quite a few PRO-4x manual pop up in results..
