Access Cab 1/4 glass

One of the quarter glass latches on my access cab is broken there's a middle link that is broken, the portion on the glass is OK and the part behind the upholsery is find, I wonder if that middle link is replaceable with out tearing everything apart.

 

You can get billet replacements, which are better than stock, which will just break again. I still have not done this, but it is on the list:

It says 1=2 latch replacements. That would mean for both windows

 

I just purchased these about a week ago. Came out to about 38 bucks shipped to my house. Install took me about 20mins for both. Just a heads up people are having some issues with installing them. Mine installed very easy and work perfectly.

This billets are nice, I got me a set.

 

I seen on another forum that there were issues where once the billet piece was installed that the window would not latch tight, and there were 9 pages of post regarding these billet pieces, now as I read through the post it was not possible to determine if there was a problem at all or if a fix on the billet has been corrected, it would be helpfull if the replys to post were dated.

 

Mine does feel a bit loose on one side but I don't recommend this to anyone but I tried prying mine w/ a flathead from the outside and it wouldn't budge so it was solid for me.

 

I had only one broken and replaced it, the other is OK and I am not going kick a sleeping dog and mess with the un-broken one, the one I did replace seems to latch not as tight as the plastic OEM one,hope the window doesn't leak water.

 

When I bought my 02, the latches were broken. My seller had bought the metal links and gave them to me. I installed one in every possible orientation. At best, I can pull the window open with my fingers, making for an easy break-in. Unless there are some aftermarket links that really lock the window, I'm going back to the stock units.

 

Well that sucks. You all should give the vendor some feedback so he can refine his design...

 

Just thought I'd add my $0.02... I called this guy and was ready to buy, my wife works literally 1 block from his shop. Never a call back. I'm done with him and wouldn't recommend working with him.

i emailed that guy just the other day about ordering a set and he emailed me back right away, seemed right on to me. my latches have been broke since i got my truck,still locks and everything but when you open it the window just flops around.

 

Interesting. I emailed him and it took a few days for him to get back to me; not a big deal. In this reply email, he asked me to call him. I did and got his voice mail; I left him a message. That was over two weeks ago... Hope it works out for you, but I'm just going with the factory part at this point.

 

IMO the billet latch link is shade to long in length, if it were shorter it would pull the glass in tighter, I don't think that jsi motorsport is going to change his design and issue those who paided a updated version, but I will let him know there is a problem.

When I bought my truck, the passenger side link was broken, so based on many high marks from CustomTacos.com, the dealer wanting to sell the whole assembly, and me thinking that the plastic piece will break multiple times, I bought this expecting it to be a permanent solution to a design flaw.

Well, overall, they do work, but it seems there needs to be some filing done from when they get made. The filing wasn't even on either piece. In addition, when first installed, the window wouldn't latch shut at all. I figured since the filing wasn't even, I'd clean it up a bit and I am able to get the window closed, latched and holding, but its far from a water tight seal. Actually, if I use the recirculation setting with all windows up, it whistles from that window sometimes and if I really want, I can force the window open pretty easy.

Since my drivers side isn't broken, I've only replaced the one side and probably wont. If I could find just the dealer plastic piece, I'd probably replace the passenger side with the plastic one as well. $25 for a hinge just isn't worth it, but then again, $30+shipping for something that doesn't work nearly as well as the factory option (and had to be modified to work), just isn't worth it either. I feel like I would've been better off with the plastic ones from the factory, but live and learn...

Like others, I tried contacting the seller about the fitment issues to never receive any replies, so I just chalked it up to being screwed by someone that probably knows he doesn't make a product that fits properly and refuses to do anything about it since he already has his money. Maybe at one time it used to work right (and why people recommended it), but as of about 6 months ago (or longer), his product isn't consistently a direct fit replacement.

 

It seems like if you have a band saw and a drill press, you could make some billet aluminum ones that actually work by using the stocker as a template. Too bad I don't have a band saw or I would try.

 

Yeah I never priced the latch at the dealer, are you saying its $25 I'll probably bite the bullet and replace the billit with a another plastic one, If you removed the interior to get at the whole latch thats under it, I wonder if its possible to shim it away from where it is attached to the cab,( flat washer) and that would allow it to close tighter?

I did e mail and complain about the fit issue we'll see if I get a reply, I thought he should re-design and for those that complained a free replacement should be sent.

As far as trying to shim it, I'm not sure, as the angles and bumps of the hinge are what causes it to lock and hold. I guess I could play with it and remove my good one to see exactly where the problem is and what needs to be adjusted, but I'm not sure I want to risk my non-broken side.
