Remember when

Same.

 

My youngest was 3 that year, I was still married to his mother and wishing I wasn't, and had finally got a job that matched my degree that actually paid slightly better than the job that I got following college (it was still crappy pay).

 

I was an old, married 26yo man.

 

Speaking of 1994...anyone in SoCal remember the Northridge earthquake of '94?

I was 8 years old when it happened, it was the very night that my family and I moved to Los Angeles from Austin, TX...we were staying in a hotel about 15 miles from the epicenter of the earthquake. Talk about a 'Welcome to CA'. For years after that and even to this day, when I hear a semi truck coming down the road or the sound of thunder in the distance, I get a sinking gut feeling that an earthquake is about to hit (I vividly remember the sound of it a few seconds before it hit).

 

Remember when you had to watch Jerry Springer or some other talk show to see what the dirty south was up too.

 

Then Jerry was elected mayor or something, of some town.

 

I did too. The girls were impressed.
Now not so much..

 

I miss that rotary sound.

 

Plus if the power went out. You could still call people. plays games with candle light. etc etc

Today if the power goes out. The world stops

 

Unless you bbq'n and drinking beers.

 

I was remembering when l was a kid and the power went out.

But nowadays. If it was summer, I'd be BBQ'n and drinking too!

 

To be honest I don't remember but maybe a day or two that I was actually home when the power went out. Latchkey kid and most of my time was spent riding bikes or skateboards with friends.

 

I have not forgotten:

 

When l was a kid. None of my toys needed batteries in order for me to play with them.

 

i remember playing cowboys and Indians with stick guns because we we too poor to have toy guns. I remember playing kick the can, and conducting ambushes on friends with snowballs from cover after ringing knocking on their door.

 

We did the stick guns until we upgraded to bb guns. Somehow, no one put an eye out.

 

In '94 I was thirty-one years out of high school.
