2020 Tacoma Teased

People seem to really hate Tacomas in this thread. Complaining they want an old school truck with no tech, yet also complaints that they don't have power seats. Nobody in specific just saying. Seems Toyota doesn't know what they're doing but just dominate sales year in and year out. I for one love my truck and also loved my 05 access cab. Would love to have an old school yota but for daily driving purposes much prefer all the safety features and tech of the 18 I have. It does everything I ask of it and get compliments on it all the time. To each their own and if you want an old taco get on bring a trailer and purchase one.

 

If they’re smart, it should all come out.

Ex. forum dwellers were perturbed when the pretty pic and marketing narrative was released for the GT500 but left out the specs and bitched/complained.

Releasing it all will garner more buy in when the excitment is up already.

Not doing so will lead people to think they’re hiding something.

The complaint is directed at new cars in general because I assume no one lets you order exactly what you want, aside from exotic companies. Not sure what the "tech doohickie" line is about, my '94 doesn't have any tech doohickies? Oil pressure gauge did randomly stop working some years ago though.

Not complaining for the sake of complaining. I'm in the market for a Tacoma, my first new vehicle purchase, and I'm finding the whole thing frustrating and annoying. I'm not asking for cheetah print leather seats and a fuzzy cotton candy headliner. Or white fender trims on a black truck. It's asking for items that already exist, they already produce, and they offer them on the truck. But for some arbitrary reason, Premium Package only comes in the blue color? That's not quality control or production costs, it seems unreasonable IMO?

I'm also reading through a thread that has people complaining about various options and costs, followed by people who respond with "Well then don't buy it!" which in reality isn't really a choice you often have, which is then why I threw my pointless 2 cents in. Not sure what this has to do with Americans. Not sure about the whole 1983 or simpler times either. I was born in '87 and I know that my vehicle does not need a a full home cinema experience in it or balls to the wall home PC functionality. No one needs it. GPS? Absolutely. Connectivity for music? Of course. Turn the lights on in my home and run the dishwasher? No.

You're (as in not you or anyone in particular here, but people) into some weird shit if you think you need this stuff in your automotive life.

Anyway, again, waste of time to discuss this.

And that's wonderful and why you should have to option to have it. If it didn't have it, then I could get one instead of an OR and get color matched fender trim and bumper etc plus other stuff I want.

 

I disagree. The raging debate is as old as Dems vs Republicans. West vs East. Team Edward vs Team Jacob.

The newer younger guys tend to embrace technology and new stuff and updates. Even get excited for it. They are the ones who believe that power seat technology has come so far that it should be easily applied to a 2019MY vehicle. And technology isn’t an evil word.

Then there are the old workhorses that want a return to the old ways when trucks were farm equipment and believe that they never broke down because there were no regulations regarding safety and reputation was purely word of mouth and feel good stories. They tend not to buy a new truck or change brands. Instead they just seem to want to yell at the kids to get off their lawn.

 

It would require changes from top to bottom to offer things that way, never gonna happen.

 

Well a lot has been said about the 2020 Taco and other things on this thread. A lot it good reading too. Did anyone notice that in the promo video, the TRD Pro looked like it no longer has the fenders flares?

 

That's because Sequoia does not have them.

 

People are already paying a god awful amount for a land cruiser (why I don’t know). Plus I don’t think Toyota would come out with a special edition on a vehicle that barely moves 3000 units/year.

The telltale sign for me is front over hang and front end. They look much shorter than the a LC. Plus the back seems more square on the LC. The vehicle on the floor looks bulbous and egg shaped to me.

Lot of polarizing opinions. Hey, I know, lets throw more gas on the drum brake fire! I think they're probably fine because I assume Toyota's engineers know what they are doing more so than some people on a forum. If the truck has drum brakes on the rear and you don't have any problems stopping.. then it's fine I think? But hey, maybe a disc option would be nice for those who do some heavy hauling. Only comes with Fire Engine Red paint option though.

 

I think I found the perfect truck for you! Great news, too! There’s no dishwasher connectivity to worry about either!

 

It will all be revealed tomorrow. Some will like the changes, most will hate it. But we know one thing for sure, they will sell 250k units next year and keep this forum growing.

 

I wouldn't bet on that. Most economists are pointing towards a market correction and long overdue recession this year. Toyota sales even Tacoma's are already down this year for Jan.

It's still a great truck, but buying power will likely not be there like it was before, maybe when the 2020s roll out and everyone has to score the latest and greatest, maybe, we shall see.

 

I think sales were off a little due to extremely cold weather, the economy is booming.

 

Dude, if everyone were able to special order their vehicle, production costs would make these trucks un-affordable to the masses. They package/bundle options as a means to save production costs in order to deliver a vehicle with tons more features for the same relative price (adjusting for inflation) for the past 20 years, all without sacrificing quality. And those packaging decisions come from consumer demand, not the constant bitching of our collective lost souls on TW. Find your 90% solution vehicle and just be happy. I don't even like Inferno that much and would kill for a JBL system, but my truck had literally every other single thing that I wanted in a new vehicle, and it was priced to move.

 

For now, sure. Almost every economist including, Peter Schiff (predicted 2008 crash) agree we are instore for a recession this year, whether its a 2008 type or only a 3-6 month correction, we shall see. Welcome to the boom and bust cycle of capitalism.

Recession ain't coming this year. Don't believe all the doom and gloom talking heads. Economy is still strong.

 

Okay, since you seem like an expert in the field and have the background and knowledge to say those that do are wrong. Please.

 

What indicators do you see? More people are employed than ever before, unemployment is lower than it's been in decades, taxes are lower, wages are up, and fuel prices are low, nothing is really pointing at a recession.
