It’s ultimately going to come down to budget. I’m getting ready to order up all my steel for my engine and cab cage and was definitely not planning on spending more on this. Been living with my blown out cats and trouble codes for over a year now. Building race cars is not advised on a college budget.

Yeah but I also need the y-pipe cause I drag mine all the time on rocks. Surprised I haven’t punched a hole in it yet.

Yeah clearance is my concern with the y-pipe. Doing the fiancés taxes tonight so we will see what’s in the budget between hers and mine. I know a gun safe was on the list of things to get with tax money. We’ll see what we come up with and what @Murphinator gets back to me with tonight.

I will get in line on the URD headers as well. Not a need, but a want. I called URD today and Gizmo was worthless on timelines or providing any estimates on multiple out of stock items. I asked to neck it down to this year and he wouldn’t even commit to that.

Yeah that ain’t gonna fly with my timeline if I do it. If I’m doing it in ordering in the next week or two and need them by the end of next month.

Yeah we were gonna don’t last year but something came up. We only have a few guns and no rifles at the moment, but want to get something for fire protection for documents and when we have company.

If you want quiet and you want a non stinky exhaust, do yourself a favor and do NOT run straight pipes. You will hate your truck if you do. Run o2 sims and call it a day for now. The light should turn off and you'll be good.

Those codes indicate an overall degradation of catalytic converter emissions conversion performance. There is a certain threshold they need to operate over in order to not trip the light on. Usually 70% conversion rate. Yours are under 70% efficiency currently.

Just because the light is on does not mean they are totally shot to hell though.

I personally always hated headers but I am a minority in the group regarding that. If you have a hole burning your pocket for headers you are free to spend your money on them, but me I would just run sims to avoid converter replacement for now.

The only proper way to address your cats and have them last the distance would be to replace with OE converters. The OE's have a very effective conversion rate and typically lengthy longevity due to their usage of platinum and rhodium within the conversion beds. This is the same reason why cat converter thieves were notorious for stealing Toyota converters off the trucks a few years ago. Scrap metal recyclers would pay big bucks for them until the law mandated the recyclers start requiring paperwork and documentation with every transaction basically making it impossible to make a quick buck for the thieves.

I run mine at high RPM's constantly when driving, and it helps to get them nice and hot like that because it ensures maximum burn efficiency due to their hotter than average temperatures.

    Food for thought @snowsk8air2 ..

Thanks for the input. I need to decide what I want to do. Either way I will be keeping the trd cat back and muffler to keep noise down. Since where I’m at I can legally run no cats I still don’t necessarily know that I want to. Truck is not my daily, so some added noise isn’t the worst thing in the world, I just don’t want it to be obnoxious on longer trips. Already going to be doubling the in cab noiise when I add the roll cage.
Smell doesn’t concern me either, I am just taking the increasing smell as a sign of the cats deteriorating.
The y-pipe is/has been needed for ground clearance so maybe I will start with that and be able to drive around with the rear cats gone to decide if I’m willing to ditch the fronts as well or go with shorties, oem, or whatever other options are out there.

Well, I am finally making some progress.

I got a 2-day subscription for Toyota Techstream ($65), got the driver for OVTune's Tactrix OpenPort widget ($155), reflashed the ECU with the Toyota TRD factory tune, and downloaded that to my handheld to send to Mat.

Time to see if I can put this tune to bed soon.

It was 17* for my morning commute. Great boost temps but too icy to have any fun. Everyone going parade speeds.
