Hissing noise

so yesterday I had the heat in and it was making a pure hissing noise. Sounds coming from the passenger side. This morning I heard it but the hissing wasn’t as loud. It only sounds when the heat is on.
Any suggestions?

 

Low freon/leak?

Evap core jacked up?

To clarify, if it's worse than freon going through the evap core normally. Then, it's probably something above.

 

It’s just the Freon passing through the evaporator core. If t keeps doing it then you might have a leak

 

Beans for supper?

 

When the heat is on the AC still runs, but at a low 'demand' to help with defogging the windshield.

My guess is you are hearing the expansion valve (attached to the evap) doing it's thing.

Turn the radio up a click or two.

 

Check that cabin filter. Could be leaf litter rubbing on the blower cage.

 

I only thought Freon was form ac but ok ya that makes sense if it runs also when there is heat.

And ya I’ll look at the cabin air filter too. I try not to tough anything plastic when it’s -10 Celsius out

 

Once warming up the interior you should be fine getting to the cabin air.
But, good point! The great north... Don't pull plastics when below freezing!

 

I took a look at the filter yesterday. Things gota be switched out lol it’s done it’s job. There were 2 small leaves in there so I shook it out and haven’t heard that noise since.
This morning driving I put my hand on the vent for the feet and thought it didn’t put out much. A new filter should fix that no?

 

My truck makes that Darth Vader Exhaling sound every now and again, I always assumed it was the expansion valve.

I had a hunch.. So many times I've had customers with the same complaint. Leaves rubbing the blower cage.

 

I knew the 2017’s were, but are the 2016’s under the squirrel cage blower recall too?

I think 2016s are on the list too but I think the recall applies only to fans of manual climate controls Tacomas, not ones with automatic climate control.

 

Sounds like the recall is not in your case, but it was to replace a defective squirrel cage blower fan that cracks on the motor shaft and makes noises before failing completely.
