    That is correct. Before , if your were filing your form 1 or form 4, you had to get the CLEO signature unless you were the officiator of a trust or legal entity like a LLC which skirted around the CLEO signature process. But in 2016 they changed it to where instead of asking permition for a NFA item, you are just basically informing the CLEO that you are getting an NFA item (if you are approved) by sending them a copy of your application. There are other things that changed with the tax stamp process which I’m not going to get into but it’s all readily found on the interwebs.

    CLEO signature is no longer required, you just send them paper work to notify them you bought an NFA item.

    They just want to make the process as drawn out and seem as difficult as possible so most people don’t even try because they really don’t want us to have this stuff. But it IS our right. It’s really not that difficult. It just seems like a daunting task to begin. Take advantage of your freedom. We are blessed to live in this country, bureaucracy or not. Don’t let them stand in your way...
