Gotcha. I basically pretend that my credit cards don’t have high limits and they get fully paid off every couple weeks.

I keep a year of mortgage / utilities in an emergency fund to cover anything that might come up. Would never put a big expense that I can’t cover from the bank on credit.

I gotcha. Financial responsibility and smart investment seems to be dwindling within the common American.

Exactly. We live in a world where we want it now now now. And it's so easy to get credit. They'll hit you up on spring break in Panama City when your 18 years old and won't stop until you're dead.

Once the 4runner is paid off, then we will save 6 months of living expenses. Then open up some money market accounts, IRA's etc. etc. Once the house is paid off, build wealth and give.

Does anyone else see the irony in talking about financial responsibility on this forum.....

you got it. I'd say the biggest thing for me was a scholarship, kept me out of debt (other than house), and obviously a dad that did things like buy my first truck ($3300) and didn't make me pay for much other than eating out until I got to college.

lol yes, but it also helps some too. I can say living at home making almost what I make now with no house payment when I joined this forum I was searching and finding everything I just HAD TO HAVE. could've been smarter about a lot of stuff, but thankfully I did have some of the financial freedom to do that. not doing it so much now lol

lol that's always the case! my weakness now that I need to fix is food. I just need to stop eating out so much (not for health reasons, just financial). I HATE cooking all the time though. I meal prep to an extent, but I prefer variety and it's hard to get away from that mindset.

I budget 200$/month for groceries (usually don't spend that) and then I most likely spend over 300$ a month just on eating out on top of that!

I tell ya, now that Tiffany and I are telling our money where to go, by budgeting properly, we are astonished at how much we can throw at debt, save and give. We're like, why were we so dang stupid? Why? Cause we were acting like that little spoiled brat that wants the hotwheels on isle 3.

At the end of the day, those Kings will last a long time and you will get your moneys worth out of them. Its your hobby, you travel and vacation around it. If not spent there it would be spent somewhere else.

I think the best thing I have done financially is budgeting a 10% tithe to the church.
