Not even a new dress... Just some costume jewelry, with a side of, a few injections.

Wonder how to get the CarPlay, if it’s just a headunit swap or more complex

When should we "expect" these to hit dealers?

Probably late August/Sept is usually when new Toyota inventory starts rolling in

It’s probably going to cost in excess of $4,000 to get the 2020 head unit. The ones we have now (JBL with Nav) cost more than 4k too.

So basically the new upgrades are:
    • New Grille Design
    • Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa
    • Electric Adjustable Seats
    • Optional 360-degree camera system
    • New Wheel Design
    • Lighting Options
    • Tail light inserts
    • Touch entry added to passenger side door
    • Multi-Terrain Monitor
    • New headlights
    • Optional bed light
Some things I would definitely love to have, but nothing too much more than what I already have. Apple care play is a big feature I wish I had.

Everything else we can just ask @mesojdm to make, and better anyways.

Yeah, I'm waiting with bated breath on this as well. Love everything about my 2018 MT OR, except for the head unit! I've got a Hondo Garage Un-Holey mount for my phone so that has helped make it bearable as I never have to interact with the head unit since I can use Android Auto through my phone. I considered going with an aftermarket unit but wasn't able to find one that I really liked and the ones that were OK were stupid crazy money by the time you purchase the head unit, wiring harnesses, dash kit, Maestro module, Sirius receiver, etc.

It'd be nice if Toyota offered a direct-replacement upgrade (or at least a replacement with minimal hacking/modification required) for older third-gen owners. Perhaps a case where if you have a first-gen third-gen VIN, the head unit costs you only $1500 instead of what I imagine will be the regular MSRP price of $4500.

Ah, a boy can dream! Until then, I'll just have to make due with my phone and Un-Holey mount.

There is a guy in the other thread who worked with Toyota on it. Sounds like it's a direct swap. I'm guessing it's not 4k either.

Couldn't Toyota just do a software update to allow Apple/Android car play?

Yes and no. Depends on the processor inside the old one. But I'd think yes, absolutely. Most devices are supported.
