It will be interesting to see. Honestly Toyota NA seems to have a loose leash on the Tacoma & Tundra to make them sort of IMV, sort of 150-series, sort of 200-series but also mix in parts from traditional GM/Ford/Dodge suppliers. Honestly I'd like the Tacoma to morph into a Ridgeline type vehicle and Toyota bring a Hilux/TGNA-F/whatever truck back that's more simple and utilitarian.

Big deal. Ill stick with my 2G. I have Carplay. Who cares about the power seat, how many times are you gonna adjust it? And the Camera, learn how to drive.

The Ranger looks more appealing and will likely get better real world MPG.

Couldnt agree more. I fear with the current crossover demand and let's be honest, (besides TW people) majority of Tacoma drivers not needing a true BOF, seeing a more unibody like platform, but that would seem like a huge risk and Toyota doesnt usually take those kinds of risks especially with Tacoma.

Whoops - My bad. Fixed the post.

I was reading an old report. Official press release explicitly states Apple and Android Car Play.

The Body-on-Frame segment is TNGA-F, not speculation. Just unclear when it will be released (which is why we have some aging SUVs until TNGA-F can be implemented). Multiple people, including Mike Sweers have been quoted to state the BOF will continue.

Not to mention other Toyota insiders have confirmed the development of TNGA-F, including Onur/Beno, who I have learned knows his stuff.
Mike Sweers stating the BOF will continue last year:

This is from a quick search. There is lots of info out there that there is a separate BOF division of TNGA.

They're only breaking sales records each month. But yeah, I'm sure you're right.

The 4 Door Wranglers also have more sales than ever, yet they also have more problems than ever. To me it is proof people will buy what they like, and both the Tacoma and Jeep fit into a market segment where they will get a ton of sales no matter what. That said, I don't think the 3rd gen is trash, but the 2nd gen powerplant/transmission operated much better and IMO, was better built. Both had a lot of TSBs, but the 3rd gen seems to have more complaints across the board. Still both good trucks.

The 3rd gen came in an era where they're selling a lot more, and at a time where everyone feels the need to log on to wherever and complain about everything.

I'm out of step that a bigger screen and power seats are a "major" thing. Couldn't give less of a care and it's not going to get me off the dime to replace my 2008 any quicker. But I know a lot of people say Tacoma lags competition and Toyota is all about selling as many cars as they can. Not to mention plenty of them are sold so something is appealing about them.

So if they want to sell trucks to the admittedly narrow segment that just wanted a newer, less worn out, less rusty truck than their 1991 truck they would do well to offer them/us a couple Hilux models. I only bought my 2008 because that's all there was in 2015 and I'm doing mods to make it more like an older truck than newer.

Anyway, the Hilux is already made in large numbers around the world so they wouldn't have to sell 100,000 per year to justify a factory and they sell both in Mexico apparently without hurting sales. Keep the choices simple, pick either XtraCab or Double Cab and color. If the standard features don't work for you then you have to go to the Tacoma. I gotta think with the way road regulations go around the world that most of the critical features (crumple zones, air bags, TPMS, etc.) are already in the Hilux (as they are in the 4Runner/Prado for example) that even if it sold a few hundred a month it could make the accountants happy.

Since Toyota does such a great job with the Land Cruiser frame, if similar design/thought process trickles down from TNGA-F to the 4Runner and Tacoma, they will be even better. Just looking at the layout of the LC frame vs 4Runner, you can see how much better designed it is. I think the TNGA-F frames will be a big upgrade from current models. TNGA will also have some sacrifices, as it is designed to make Toyota money by having less parts across platforms. I'm looking forward to the next gen across the BOF platform.

All true, but at this point I'm starting to wonder if the 3rd Gen will be the last true Tacoma.

I really loved the simplicity of my 2nd gens and 1st gen but also love the creature comforts of my 3rd gen but also for the first time ever bought an extended warranty because of all the new tech. It’s a bit of a double edged sword for me, that and $40k for a Tacoma...

I just bough a Kenwood with andriod auto and a bunch of features for $350(about $450 with the controls to make the steering wheel buttons works). Much cheaper then a new truck
