Im amazed im still alive from some of the crap Seth and Rusty did. My best was 30yrds of 1ft water across the sand flats in winter hopped up rm125. Then I cartwheeled and called it good enough!

I have these, but I've never installed or used them. I got them to meet the must carry chains requirement driving up to paradise. I have an unused set for our highlander also. So, basically I'm no help.

Get the burliest chains you can get....if you need them with your Taco you REALLY need chains

I've been thinking about getting some of these to throw into the truck to unfuckulate myself in the snow if I managed to. Obviously not to meet a requirement of having "chains in the vehicle" though

So I keep hearing that with good tires and AWD I couldnt possibly need chains, but I basically couldnt leave my neighborhood because all the roads were essentially ice. I have a decent amount of experience driving on snow and ice and if im almost sliding into cars on sheet ice at 5-10 mph it seems like the duratracs just arent cutting it. Am I doing something wrong? I'm even airing down to like 15-20 psi.

 

Those aren't chains, those are cables and they easily destroyed. Don't use them off-road.
Proper chains on all 4 wheels is a heck of a lot of fun for snow wheeling

 

What do you recommend?

 

The most HD chains you can find. Mine were handed down to me so I couldn't give you a link. Also, I wouldn't want any plastic fasteners on them because all they do is break. Metal all the way.
Buy once cry once basically. Oh and if you only have one set put them on the front axle, not the rear
