Once they come out I'll look into the Android Auto potential upgrade. If it's not worth it from Toyota, I'll go the aftermarket route. What setup are you getting installed? Will you still have all OEM capabilities (like steering wheel controls, mic for phone etc.)?

I am getting an Alpine 207ilx which does both apple and android, but it's wired, not wireless. Using a maestro connector to keep all controls and actually gaining some info displays on the headunit as far as engine performance and the tire information etc... TBH, if my installer wasn't an alpine place, I might look into some of the pioneer or kenwood head units that are very similar but seem to have a couple extra options and sometimes can be cheaper. There are a few good threads on the audio/video section about the different available options.

Random inquiry here ladies and gents...Thoughts on the Xterra? For some reason I've always liked them, liked the ride (test drove one maybe 5 years ago now?) It's crossed my mind on a few occasions that once the taco is paid off, and things are right financially of course, getting a late model Xterra to build up a bit or daily if the taco becomes more of a build truck

My Sister had one several years ago that she bought new. I forget what year.
It was plagued with electrical as well as cooling system troubles from the start.
Lemon Law took effect and she ended up with a 4Runner.

Not saying all were junk, but her's was.:notsure:

I now have a stone chip in my windshield, crap! :annoyed:

It's only a small star less then the size of a dime on the right side, centered, about 6' up.
It is distracting as hell to me.

Has anyone found any luck and a good place to get these things fixed in the central mass area?

    Any recommendations would be appreciate!
    Price ranges?

I have no clue never had it done, all of my previous windshield problems have been solved by getting a new one.

If you go buy one, get the supercharger version. Normally aspirated ones are lacking gitty up.

My BIL got one when they first came out many years ago. I don't him having any complaints except when he was trading it out there were words about rust being an issue, so take a good peek!

    There were 2 generations.

Stay away from early ones. Especially with the early seconds.

Towards the end of their run(2011 on) they were all sorted out. 4.0/5spd auto or 4.0/6mt. The offroad has selectable locker, abd 6mt has the same size rear diff, just open.
Itz basically same as my Frontier.
Mine proved to be well sorted, and reliable. Only issue was a fan clutch. Got noisy. Drove me nuts.
Would not hesitate to snag another frontier, or a XTerra.
Up until the last year, I was still wheeling with that crew.

Didn't get the alpha out because the wife wouldn't drive her own, so we had a lame two up, but the rental guy said they are game changers out in the backcountry....still got going 70 on the highway out of Montana to Wyoming which they turn into a snowmobile only highway in the winter!!! Some of the hills guys were going up and down blew my mind, and I wouldn't even attempt. Owner had been there 10 years, lost 10 friends on the hills doing stuff like that. We stuck to the trails but still got about 60 miles in today. -10 without windchill in town, no idea how cold it was up on some peaks at 10k+, but it was worth it! Such a beautiful place and fun way to see it. Way more photos and videos but I dont wanna spam anymore than I am.

And don't worry @Chasespeed we are off to dinner after a cup of coffee :pccoffee:

Thanks, I keep looking around here and feeling like I'm in the middle of a painting or something, it's unreal. The pictures can't even come close to doing it justice.

That is a part of the country I have never been to. Up and down all coasts. Just not interior.
    Its on our list...hopefully...
Seen many places on this planet that defy description, and photos dont even begin. Sometimes it is infuriating that I have seen more of other countries, and continents, than the one I call I home.

So, while I may harass about sharing while on vacation, I am thoroughly enjoying.

    Thanks

All the inventory in those pictures is sickening! I bet every one of those bumpers and sliders were bought and paid for. If someone gets all that for $5k, they’d make that back in a heartbeat selling the bumpers alone. That’s if they are able to sell them... Would be a tough sell here though because a member likely already bought it...

Sounds about right. My best friend's wife had 2, a 2004 and a 2012. The 2004 always had some stupid little going on. He chased a CEL for a fair amount of time with the EVAP system. The 2012 was bought new and it was a Pro-4X. They didn't really have too much trouble with it outside of blowing out the rear differential right after the standard factory warranty was up. The OEM extended warranty they had covered it.

It was nice, but it wasn't all that family friendly. Getting in and out of the rear doors was a bit of a challenge. They ended up with a 4Runner when they got sick of the Nissan.

Was 2011 the first year of no strawberry milkshake on the 2G Xterra?
