Headlight bulb out... what replacement bulb kicks @ss?

So I did read the ultimate headlight / fog light threads. There is just too much info in those threads. Maybe this thread can be the crib notes version or just share your own experiences. I just want a plug and play H4 and H11 bulbs. No LED conversions or any of that crap. I plan on not upgrading harnesses and I don't care about light color, all I care about is output.

My take away from the above mentioned, very informative threads are the Orsam bulbs are the way to go. Which ones do I want?

This is what I have been using. Not sure how they compare to the ones you listed but they are a definite improvement over the dim stock headlights.

god no... please NO. LED scatter is horrible and blinds everyone.

 

You should not run those Osram bulbs without the harness. You’ll likely blow your fuses when you hit the high beam as they will pull 200w.

The Nightbreaker +150 Lasers are disappointing. I think they went overboard with the blue coating.

Best H4 options for no harness:
-Osram All Season Super -these are 75/68w bulbs listed as 60/55w. They are more yellow in color.
-GE +130 Megalight, good low beam but reduced high beam due to blue coating.
-GE +120 Megalight. Better high beam than +130 due to no coating.

This info is in the original post of the main thread. Updates are coming to that thread to show a more comprehensive comparison against the differing performance bulbs.

 

Also, the fog thread for 05-11 is stupid bright and not very street friendly. If you're using it on FS roads or when nobody is around it can be handy. If you want to use it on the street with other vehicles I would pick something out of this thread instead:

Check out headlight revolution, they have some really good videos on YouTube, and they say they test all the bulbs they sell to make sure they're not junk. Plus they test with specific vehicles so you don't get light spatter

I picked up a set of Philips X-tremeVision +130% and just installed them a few minutes ago. I have to say, the pictures don't do them justice. My lenses are dirty and covered in salt and in person they look extremely white and clear.

I can't wait to drive at night and try them out.

All LEDs in halogen reflectors cause glare and scatter. This is fundamental physics. They are trying to sell you a product.

Even aside from the glare and scatter, LEDs do not project in a halogen housing. Meaning you lose your distance projection. It is a long read, but see this thread for why backed by scientific proof:

Those are good bulbs to balance performance with bulb life, as they are rated at a reasonable 420 hours. High beam performance is down though since they coated the high beam on that bulb.

 

I had no idea it was coated. For some reason I was under the impression that it wasnt but either way I'm happy. I'm betting the low beam on these are still an improvement over the stock high beams

 

Here is a photo. Many manufactures do this to give a whiter look without significantly reducing performance, which can work well on a single filament bulb, but on a dual filament like the H4 many end up covering the high beam filament.

 

I have a 12 and completed both of your upgrades. I’ve gotten into the habit of turning off my fogs as well for oncoming traffic. I have seen oncoming drivers turn away from the light.

Yeah, those are very bright too, though the 05-11 version is brighter. The problem is the factory fogs do not do a great job of glare control. I’m working on an update for the 12+ fogs to hopefully significantly reduce glare, and push output even higher and also offer some color temp tuning options. I’ve posted 1-2 early test results in the thread.
