I am looking at buying a new Tacoma. Is the Auto LSD any good? I have LSD on my Dakota and it is good. The salesman I spoke with said it was not the same on the Tacoma.

Auto LSD is a traction control system using the braking action rather than a Mechanical LSD.

If you are thinking about a TRD model, I would get an Offroad...Auto LSD + locker...

It definitely takes the fun out of doing donuts in dirt if you don't turn it off...

But it puts the fun into not crashing when you hit a slick spot, patch of sand, etc.

The stability control (VSC, brakes) traction control (throttle control + brakes) and ALSD (just brakes) all work very well in snow and rain.

Also true...while it has ruined some moments of skinny pedal joy, it has also saved me a few times from crashing into trees or sliding off the road...

I dont mean to thread jack, but here's a question: did the older sport models (2006-2008) with a mechanical LSD also have VSC as an available option? If so was the standard sport model mechanical LSD replaced with an auto LSD system if the models with VSC or did it have both?

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
I dont think so. I had never seen Mechanical LSD and VSC truck as factory setup. It would be counter productive to have them both at the same time and mechanical can not be turned off.
Never both to my knowledge old sports had mechanical LSD new sports have fake one.
