Custom steering wheel logo

Pulling an airbag with the battery connected. Just speaking for myself as an amateur.

 

Understandable. When I used to work at the Toyota dealer installing remote starters, I accidentally unplugged airbags with ignition turned on, car running, etc, and never had an issue. Shit happens when you're in a hurry. It's definitely not recommended though. Just be safe and pull a battery cable!

 

That looks really good. I've been sitting on the fence for awhile now but yours might have been the push I need.

 

That looksclean, what color is the trd? So it came as 2 pieces then- a mount with pegs and then the logo

 

I was wondering if you could do something like your original design in a monochrome?

I really like that monochrome logo. I think it would great with some retro graphics on fenders like this:

 

@JimmyRigged88 painted or printed the TRD in a gray that's pretty close to the cement gray paint on the truck. It all came as 1 piece, but the little pegs sticking out the back are just small pieces of the ABS printer filament he used to print the part. I should have taken a pic before, since there were just 6 little holes to stick the filament into.

 

I'm with @treimche. The airbag is always there, I'm more paranoid of it going off while off road, or going over a speed bump then when its unplugged.

@jsinnard I have a 3d model for that retro T style emblem, and a monochrome of the original one I made is totally doable, I'd just need to track down 3 or 4 different grays that go together well.

@kjhadfield The emblem is one piece. It has holes in the back that line up with the OEM pegs so it can either be screwed on or pegs can be added and melted on like the original. That particular one has a cement-ish gray TRD.

 

I would think all we have to do is plasti dip it like any outer emblem. I may try it this weekend.

 

I'm happy with my results. Getting the derp out of the tight spots might be a challenge?

 

Is there any way I could get that TRD badge in red letters? I want it to match my meso coin tray TRD

 

Soon... hopefully. I have yet to find a red that is both the right shade, and doesn't fade in the acetone smoothing process.

One way I've found around it is to texture the surface in order to hide the layer lines from 3d printing instead of acetone smoothing.
Here is what that looks like. I need to increase the thickness of the trd to make it more vibrant, and work on the texture of the teq background. But this should give you an idea.

 

@JimmyRigged88 keep us updated, I'm in for 1 of each of those above, plus a monochromatic if doing them. too many options you are doing to choose from! any chance you can post everything you are working on in one post?

JimmyRigged88 you still taking orders for these sweet mods? If so I’d be interested in your original mod. That retro tri color is legit.

 

I derped the badges outside and it's not that hard. It cleans easily using a toothpick.

 

I agree that the outside would be easy. I'm just thinking the cover and texture might complicate it.

 

Might want to test the derp on an inconspicuous area before going at the steering wheel logo. Plasti dip is solvent based, and may not play well with certain plastics.

 

I will do a Roundup of all the designs and post them up soon. I've been delaying it to get caught up on existing orders.
