I don't care how slow it is. All about low end grunt and reliability. Filters were clearance and I don't need to climb under truck and use a special wrench. Reach the oil plug too without getting under.

You don't need to justify your purchase to me, lol

One of the major reasons people swapped head units was to have Apple Car Play/AA. That reason is now nullified.

The newer version of the 4.0 has the filter located under the engine and also has the reusable plastic cap bs too.

It probably will, but anyone who would rather have 2019 should be able to get a deal on one.

They stole my light idea for the headlights! lol
I mentioned months back in Meso's thread that those blanks would be a good place for led lights.

And having Android Auto (FINALLY) would be huge. Not huge enough for me to trade in, but it would have saved me a ton in replacing the radio.

hey, I wasn't the only one that said it looked somewhat "rounded". It's all in our own personal interpretation isn't it?
I sat tomato, you say tomahto.
Let's call the whole thing off. (Like this thread should be)

Check out where the Rangers 4 cylinder 310ft lbs are in the rpm compared to your grunting engine.

Still trying to figure out the reliability angle.

I think there's more than a few of us who agree with you 100%. And the forever dissection of the most minute detail. I think a lot of people either don't have a job, or don't have a life if they're picking an argument with others who just have a different opinion or want different things.

    Peace. Out. Unfollowing.

You aren’t going to convince him. The myth that the 4.0 is some bulletproof engine with endless horsepower and torque is comical, almost as much as owners of it trolling this sub-forum.

Having spent 11 years with my 4.0 and 8 months on this new 3rd gen I can tell you that I do miss my old baby. I hit the gas and she went. I didn't have to hit any buttons or add a custom tune. She just worked. All of the time.

I love my 3rd gen too, but it's gonna take time to adjust.

Nostalgia is something for sure. My cousin and a guy in my girl’s ‘squad’ both have 2G Tacoma’s and love mine in comparison. I’d suggest getting the updated software from Toyota if you haven’t, or let go of the past because neither of our trucks have full size engines :angrygirl:

The real complaint is for those who just bought a T4R. Woof. Finally getting new tech for the first time in a LONG time.

I'm running OVTune and it's better than stock for sure. I don't know if it's the CAI I put in but it seems to be idling rougher and a tad slower on takeoff some days. Might need to try out v1.05 or ask Matt if he has one built for CAI.

It’s great to see Toyota finally added Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to the Tacoma. Hopefully, older units can be updated to include these features.

The addition of the power driver seat is long overdue!

New headlights follow the trend of aftermarket headlights already in circulation, I guess Toyota noticed the trend. LED fog lights are sure to pair nicely.

Unfortunately, Toyota still can’t get out of its own way with grille designs!

I'd like to see a picture of the 2020 TRD Sport wheels. Anyone have one? Thanks.

I test drove the Ranger FX4 crewcab last weekend at my local dealer and in all honesty, the Ranger does some things better than the Taco. The turbo engine/transmission is more responsive and their back seats are slightly more spacey than the Taco and I really like the Ranger interior (still plastic like Taco but more refined). I also thought the tray is more deeper than the Taco as well.

Only place where Taco easily stands its ground is long term reliability but Ford knows how to make a good truck and they spend a lot of years to get the Ranger back in the US so I'm sure that simply won't fall apart at 50k.
The same Ranger with the diesel engine has been available in the Asian/Pacific market for years.

But I still prefer the Taco 3rd gen body over every other mid size truck in the market. I walked out on a 2018 OR deal last year and kinda happy now knowing the 2020 will be slightly refined.

I'm waiting end of year sales and will get the 19' Ranger or the 2020 Taco, mainly depending on discounts/incentives, etc.

Personally, I don't think you can go wrong with either trucks. And yes, my local dealer got 5 rangers 2 weeks ago and all are sold and looks like Ford is playing it safe with controlled inventory right now and then doing the heavy push later. Wouldn't be surprised if Ranger gets the 2nd spot this year for mid size truck market.

You definitely make a very valid point. Can't always have the newest and shiniest thing. Especially with vehicles...
