So I think I'm gonna rivet the front two mounting points and probably do tack weld on the back two (that are easier to get to). Main reason being they back two are easier to access and prep before welding.

I'm just gonna sound like a dick .... because you or anyone else in here questioning it could build better? Hindsight is always obvious as fuck. I know you couldn't build that or have any kind of competent knowledge of fabbing things that see high sheer loads or abuse of that caliber. They should be listening to almost no one when it comes to armchair quarterbacking on how they should build suspension components. If I had to make a conclusion, I'd say they wanted the ability to adjust the angle of the tie rod working through Ackerman numbers, knew that it wouldn't be a final production piece, thought it could survive long enough to get sufficient data and make adjustments throughout the event and they just underestimated how brutal the environment would be and how weak the fabrication would be. I too would say it looks weak but I wouldn't say it with a "pssssss, these stupid fucks. Idiots!" They are doing exactly what they should be doing. Building, testing, fixing, testing, fixing again, testing, etc .... BEFORE they sell it to you and you break your shit and tell the world how you knew it would break and they are idiots. You should stop talking ....

    Love you still ....

I couldn’t build anywhere near that. And I’m not saying that they’re idiots in the least bit. Guaranteed everyone that touched that suspension is leaps and bounds more knowledgeable then me when it comes to suspension. Hell, I’m sure someone mentioned it and they had reasons to leave it like that. It could’ve even been designed to be the weak link so they don’t crack the crossmember or some crazy shit.

My observation was simply that with as built as that front end was and with everything boxed, I don’t truly understand why they left that unboxed. But there’s a trillion things in this world that I don’t understand.

    Love you still too....... Dick

Haha oh you can. I'm just saying no one should listen to you. :hattip:
And I did too. I agree with Zachks observation. Even if you know just a little bit, it looks weak. Just pointing out that it's easy for us to assume they are stupid because "I don't know shit and I even i could see that was weak" but saying that without any knowledge of what their intentions were. Anyone who has ever fabricated something has questioned the strength of something they built then rolled with it anyway with whatever logical, to them, rationalization they could come up with. This is perfectly fine until you are selling that something to someone else and putting them in danger. As long as its designated under the r&d process, you can make all the questionable decisions you want. Haha

Hey stop being logical and put your internet powered solidworks eye glasses on and know all the force loads imposed on parts just by looking at it through a screen.

My guess is that this was on a punch list 3miles long and they remembered they forgot to get to that item when it broke.

I would say yes, but headed to LBL for camp/wheeling. Your old ass could join us and I’ll buy you the first drink.

Unfortunately, there will be no titties, unless we get Dave started on the bottle early.

    Here’s the lowdown and location:

****UPDATE**** we’re moving the camp location to FS 220. It’s a dead end road right at the river and will offer us more solitude over all the traffic Neville Bay gets. FS 220 is about half way between the South Information Center and the FS 100, which is the Neville Bay access road. I’m planning to leave Nashville around 2-2:30ish if anyone wants to coordinate driving together. We’ll be using 2-way radios on frequency 146.560.

Neville Bay is on 214. You got coords for the camp?

Edit: just looked it up. Seems like a decent road on sat. imagery. I might make a trip down for Saturday/Saturday night and hang out around the fire if you'll have me.

Why did you wait till 15 hrs from leaving to ask if we wanted to join? Seems like a perfect way to say you asked while not actually wanting anyone to show up .... I see what you've done here. Sneaky sneaky

Haha someone around here has to do the logical thinking. And yeah, I bet that's not the only thing they've missed. I wish the world wasn't like this but I give them props for publically going through r&d because, as we all know, you can go from completely trusted to a complete dumbass with one non contextual photograph.

I like that they’re doing the R&D publicly. Gives the public the opportunity to give their opinion and watch them fix and improve before it launches for sale.

I’m sure they’ll post about the failure and why they left it un-boxed. KOH is a hell of a time for the first test of a product.
