The base MSRP for the 2011 Tacoma will range from $16,365 for the Regular Cab 4x2 equipped with a 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine and five-speed manual transmission, to $27,525 for the Tacoma Double Cab 4x4 long bed with a 4.0-liter V6 and five-speed automatic.

All 2011 Tacomas will be assembled at Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Baja California (TMMBC) in Baja California, Mexico and Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Texas (TMMTX) in San Antonio, Texas.

For 2011 Toyota has discontinued three low volume manual transmission models and added five four-cylinder, four-speed automatic models. The new models include: Access Cab 4x2 PreRunner; Double Cab 4x2; Double Cab 4x2 PreRunner; Regular Cab 4x4, and Access Cab 4x4.

Added features include a newly designed grille on all Base, SR5, TRD Off-Road, TRD Sport and X-Runner models. All Regular Cab models will now include air conditioning as standard equipment and 15-inch styled steel wheels will be standard on 4x2 Regular Cab models. Models with the available six-disc CD changer now come with integrated satellite radio (subscription required). A new Convenience Extra Value Package for Double Cab models adds cruise control, a sliding rear window with privacy glass, remote keyless entry and steering wheel audio controls. One existing color, Black Sand Pearl will be changed to Black.

The 2011 Tacoma line offers two engines: a 2.7-liter DOHC four-cylinder that produces 159 horsepower with 180 lb-ft. of torque and a 4.0-liter DOHC V6 that produces 236 horsepower with 266 lb-ft. of torque. In both engines, variable valve timing with intelligence (VVT-i) provides strong low-end and mid-range torque.

An Electronic Throttle Control System with intelligence (ETCS-i) helps optimize performance and fuel economy. The V6 engine can be teamed with either a six-speed manual or a five-speed automatic transmission. Four-cylinder models offer a choice between a five-speed manual and a four-speed automatic transmission. When equipped with a V6 Tow Package Access Cab models have a maximum tow capacity of 6,500 pounds.

Standard on all Tacoma models is the Toyota Star Safety System(TM), which includes the anti-lock braking system (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRAC). An Automatic Limited-slip Differential (Auto-LSD), which uses brake intervention to help reduce tire slippage at the rear wheels, is standard on all Tacoma models.

The 2011 Tacoma will begin arriving at Toyota dealerships in late July.

Sliding rear window is about the same what we have now. It didn't says power sliding rear window. I wish to have that. Yeah I saw some mods do that. Cool.

 

Just want to get something off my chest. Toyota announced some updates to the 2011 Tundra, and guess what...they upgraded the base V6 (4.0) to have dual VVT-i! This makes ABOULETLY NO sense as to why Toyota didn't upgrade the Tacoma as well!! This means that ALL of the vehicles that utilize the 4.0 liter V6 except the Tacoma have the revised 4.0 V6 with Dual VVT-i (4Runner, FJ Cruiser & Tundra).

Why would they want to offer two variation of the 4.0 V6 if they didn’t have to? The Dual VVT-i would provide more hp and torque along with better fuel economy…so why not add it to the 2011 Tacoma?????

Frustrating!!!

The Tacoma and Tundra are both being assembly on the same line in Toyotas factory in Texas. So it makes even less sense to have two variations of the V6 running down the same assembly line. Doesn't sound very lean to me!

That's still the 2010 tundra specs. Looks like they have not updated it yet.

Yes, it's for the 2011 Tundra.

 

word from a toyota employee is that they're planning on an engine (and model) update for 2012. i'd expect the new engine then. they have announced recently though that they're delaying some development due to the recent quality problems that have gone public.

 

That's the only thing I can imagine as to why they didn't update the engine for 2011 is that would plan to do a major change for model year 2012 and would add the engine then. ...with hopefully one more gear in the tranny too!

But it's not uncommon for Toyota to change motors in the middle of a model. Look at the latest Tundra it went from a 4.7 liter V8 cast iron to a 4.6 liter V6 cast alumimum block and a brand new 6 speed transmission just last year.

The 1 gen Tacoma they did the same thing with the I4 from 2.4 liter to 2.7 liter.

It's just very frustrating to know that they have the technology available and they chose to pass it bye.

 

A 4 cyl DC....I wonder if they will promote or produce a TRD Supercharger to go with it. Someone on one of the blogs commented on my comment for a DC 4 cyl and said it would underpower the truck. Again I wonder if the 6 cyl were modded would it infact give better mpg? So many questions so few answers...so help me out guys....

Why would you want dual VVTi?

 

Like I stated above, dual VVT-i would increase both horsepower and torque all while increasing fuel economy. Sounds like a no brainer to me, and it's not a brand new technology Toyota has it in a number of engines...in fact the Tacoma is one of the few if not the only Toyota model that doesn't offer an engine option with Dual VVT-i.

If you're wondering what Dual VVT-i means:

In short it means that the the intake AND exhaust ports can be independently advanced or retarded to optimize the engine performance.
