last winter trip i did up there, we got just short of the big junction up top... there is a section when it leaves the trees that is wind exposed and the snow is VERY hard and off-camber. do not attempt this without walking it first. the downhill is steep and you'll slide/tumble for a bit before slamming into the trees.

with a dedicated group of shovelers, you could probably dig it out and make it to the junction... there's old mining relics and a few other trails meet up...

most of the snow before that in the trees stays soft though... there is a hill climb that will challenge you, but totally doable. just know you have to slide back down it on the way back... there is a decent size area just above that can hold some trucks. the actual campground will be closed.

    fun winter trail tho!

Yeah, you'll probably have a lot of body damage if anything happens like sliding off the trail and/or rolling over that sliders won't do anything for except give more points to attach a strap to for recovering the truck :D
I don't have sliders and have OEM bumpers and am considering coming out for this. I'll feel like a jerk though sitting in my truck and not helping with shoveling since I jacked up my back a few days ago though... I'd be running the power inverter in order to keep my heating pad piping hot and wrapped around my back.

As someone with a messed up back, I can tell you the only thing to do is ignore it, use it, and make it worse.

    Just like I did :D

As someone else with a bad back, dont stress the watching. Just ride and worry about it later. We wont leave you on the mountain.
As someone else with a bad back, I can tell you that is not sustainable. 9 epidurals and 8 ablations in the last 4 months have taught me that I was dumb when I was young and said what you were just saying. I think they call that hindsight. I call it wisdom.

I'm not even sure what I did. I went on a 5+ mile trail run on Sunday. Wednesday I rode my bike to work in the ridiculous snow (with studded winter tires) and when I got out of my chair to go to the bathroom my lower back was pretty much seized up. WTF.... So, I guess...

I had to bail. I woke up with the back feeling worse AND I promised my friend that I would help him rescue his LMTV.

Turns out that Maxtrax can handle a 20,000 lb vehicle.
