    It's not ineptitude, brother. I do a bit of rigging where I work so I've been using this stuff for over two decades. And when it comes to rigging, don't go cheap. With the weights we deal with at work it's critical. Maybe not so much with our taco trucks, but a good shackle is not a whole lot more cost than a cheap Chinese shackle. Crosby, FTMFW! It is more painful if you lose them frequently.

    Lead Free Gasoline
    Any time you’re in the Sierra in the winter you’re required to carry chains even with 4x4.

    Most part stores will either carry something that’ll fit or can order some.

    I have a set of chains but cable “chains” can be cheaper.
