Put the SL’s on the wife’s 4Runner and really like them. Fixed the shack we had from the stock tires and wheels

DTD, why aren't these sold in a 285 75 16 ? I'm looking to upgrade my 265 75 16 Duratrac's (I bought from DTD online three years ago) to 285 75 16 tires. Not exactly sure which tire I'm going with yet but I came across these and liked them. Kinda disappointed they aren't offered in one of the most popular tire sizes.

When I first read your post I thought to myself that the UltraTerrain is built in 285/75R-16 but I double checked and you're right, it's not.

I'm not sure why this is and according to our support team, there are no plans on building the UltraTerrain in this size. If anything with that changes we'll be sure to post up!

    Hey All,

Curious if there are any GoodYear UltraTerrain users out there. How you liking these tires? What PSI are you running?

    Thanks

I came from trying out Falken Wildpeaks for a week. They were less aggressive tire and more supple ride, but had an intermittent vibration, do to balance. They talked me into trying these UT's out.

I came from a Duratrac before trying the Wildpeaks, that cupped real bad starting at 25k, so i was hesitant (still am). Anyway, these are a bit less aggressive than the Duratracs, but you still feel them at low speed. They are harsher/stiffer (less car like) at low speeds, than the WP's, but at high speeds i dont have the intermittent vibration. So will probably end up keeping these and just rotate and balance every 5k. Recommend anyone do the same. Mine are the SL 4 ply. To early to tell on any wear. No steering wheel vibration (back and forth). My Duratracs caused that when they started to cup.

I need to let some air out and see if that improves the ride any. They set them at 35psi, which i know is too high. Suggest doing the chalk test if you have the time. I will in the next week or so, if outside conditions improve.

I think i will be happy with these, as long as they dont start cupping at some point.

You got it. I know how frustrating it can be buying tires. Just went through it. Not entirely convinced i shouldnt have tried the ko2's, but i hear a lot of the same things about those.

Also, these were a lot better priced than the ko2's and had a $60 rebate, on top of the $50 DT rebate.

If these ever start to cup i will report back and if they do, i'll give the ko2's a try, lol.

I actually have the KO2's, have about 27k on them. 53lbs a piece, and very stiff (265/75/16). Been looking to get a lighter and less stiff tire. These Ultra Terrains seem to fit the bill nicely, weighing only 40lbs in the SL.

Browsed through the thread but didn't see if these come with white letters on one side of the sidewall? (ducks under desk)

I put these tires on the truck about 2 weeks ago in 265/75 coming from the stock hankooks at 245/75. They ride a bit more stiff than the stock tires but that’s to be expected and definitely nothing too bad. They set them at 38 PSI all the way around and that was way too high so I have them sitting at 35 currently which still may be a little high. I got them in SL. Took the truck out on some trails over the weekend and tires performed flawlessly. No complaints here!

Ya, i think they have white side walls in just a couple sizes, if i remember right. @DT, they can tell ya.

The wildpeaks where surprisingly soft ride, more than these UT's in SL. But i had vibration with the WP's at certain speeds and do not with the UT's. UT's just stiffer, but i was used to it with my hard ass cupped duratracs.

Anyway, i'll probably stick with the UT's. I'm still pretty happy with them. I'll just be rotating and balancing the hell out of them, to try and keep them from cupping like my DT's. Honestly, i still like my DT's pretty well, even though they cupped early. Blame too light springs up front, which i replaced. The performed well even cupped, just cupped on outside edge. Least i am hoping it was the springs, lol.

Just spoke with Discount Tire in my area today and these Ultraterrains may just be in my near future! I'm also considering BFG K0'2s as I've run them for years. I have to say these UT's were on display in the showroom and look so much better in person than they come across in photos...

Only thing I don't like about them so far, is they seem stiffer than I expected. WP were nicer ride, but had a balance issue. How the ko2 ride? Kinda kicking myself for not giving them a try. Oh and they grab them some gravel

The K02's I ran were on my last 6 inch lifted 2007 Taco Prerunner which was a stiff ride period. I never minded the ride honestly. It was a lifted truck and I wasn't chasing a Cadillac soft ride anyway.

Big day today. Finally...(8 months old..sheesh!) replaced my stock Goodyear Wrangler Adventure Terrains on my TRD Off Road 4x4. This is the last big upgrade I have in mind for my Taco for a while. I was really on the fence between these new Ultraterrains and my tried and true BFG K02's. Also back and forth on 265 or 285's... The U.T.'s only come in 265 for a 16 wheel. So I decided, for this go around, I'll stick with the (closer to stock) 265 size. Discount Tire was really patient with me and (Justin) rolled out both tires to my truck so I could visualize them up next to my stockerz! Keeping in mind both are the exact same 265-75-16 size.
The BFG's look wider at the footprint than the U.T.'s But the U.T.'s are a touch taller. (Sorry I didn't measure, maybe 1/2 inch...)
    U.T.'s are a standard load 4 ply
    BFG's are an E load 10 ply
    Here they are beside my truck with stock tires;

After all the indecision and lost sleep, I went with the Goodyear Ultraterrains!
Discount Tire offers a 30 day no hassle return policy. If for any reason I'm not crazy about these tires I'll take them back and get the BFG's.
However, these mounted up and balanced great with no vibrations or any issues etc. Rode in town and at highway speed nicely running at 34 psi. Also they were very reasonably priced at $807.11 mounted and balanced (with no certificates) out the door. On top of that they had a $40 rebate so that will bring it to $767.11.
We'll see how they do over the next couple of weeks, for now I'm pretty happy!
