Holy shit. Move to PA, the last free state. My registration is $43, it's reduced for driving less than 5k miles a year and no emissions test (it would pass, just don't have to pay the $20 fee).

Also keep in mind in CA, a pick up truck is automatically registered as a commercial vehicle which adds another $80 to the registration fees as "Vehicle Weight Fee". Only way to get around this fee is to have a camper shell permanently mounted on the bed.

When I moved back to CA from AZ I had to pay $2000 to register my 2018. Registration, sales tax(diff between AZ and CA) and some BS penalty for not registering it w/in 30 days of my move. Yeah that hurt:mad:

Last I read you had to prove that you could live out of it, or something to that extent. Is that still a thing?

Leave it to the third gen section to have a thread about penis measuring based on the state you live in.

The girl at the counter questioned me about it because she was reading the form wording. You have to get it inspected at the DMV and the counter people don't know anything. The actual guy that "inspected" took a few seconds to look how mine was mounted with clamps and approved it.

I also remember smog so bad in southern California in the 70s that you couldn't see the next signal about a half a mile away. I lived there all summer before I knew there were mountains 5 miles away. No unleaded gas either. Now you can see for miles.

    Pollution controls.

Ahhh, the near-sightedness of legislated “good intentions”. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely want a healthy environment, but this is the wrong way to do it. I won’t get into it here per terms of use violations, but what these fees do best is create social class divisions. If you think the state of California (or any other) knows what it’s doing:

    That is all.

I LOVE my state and HATE the pointy headed idiots who run it. They don't give two shits for the actual CITIZENS
who happen to pay the taxes. Then they they coddle people from other (un-mentioned) countries that
shouldn't be here in the first place.

    Fuck.

    Rant over.

Clearly my poor attempt at humor didn’t work.

Please remember the outlined rules in the CoC. This thread doesn’t need to be politically charged at all.

NorCal native here. California used to be great, but yeah, it does suck now. I'd be out of here in a heartbeat if my job wasn't here. Rent is so high it's impossible to save for a home, and forget buying a home these days, what with the hyper-inflated prices for a dilapidated California dump.

    P.S.

Here's a snap I took from Ocean Beach in SF recently. Greetings from Cali!

For real. I complain about the $25 yearly inspection and $70 registration but some of you guys have it so, so bad

That’s cool! California is awesome. There is also legislation being floated that would move smog check requirements from 1976 to 1983. Good news for us classic car guys.

It always amazes me how lenient California is on car registration.

Born and raised in SoCal. But I cannot stand what the politicians did to that State and after 42 years, I moved my family out. Better schools, cost of living and I can conceal carry if I want to. Plus it’s only $82 to register my taco per year. Doesn’t matter the age or anything.

I googled when unleaded gas was introduced. I was wrong somewhat. Leaded gas was banned in the early 1980s and unleaded gas became available around 1972. Breathing fumes with lead was a heath threat.
