Purchased Toyota platinum extended warranty 4/125k for $1335. The surprise came in the booklet stating expiration on 01/22, so in reality I will only get covered for 1 extra year since we have a 3/36k. Be careful read all disclaimers. These dealerships are trying to extract every dime they can get from customers. I am planning to cancel the contract on Tuesday.

Jeeze you got screwed by the dealer. 4/125k doesn't even make sense. I believe the average yearly mileage is 12-15k per year.

Make sure you cancel within 30 days of purchase to get the full refund or else it will be pro-rated

Definitely, I was misled to think that the warranty was set to kick in after the 3/36k, which is supposed to be a total of 7/125.

I got the top package ext warranty on my new 18. I paid $1750 for 10 yr 125k coverage. They started out at $3200. I felt good considering my Taco has every possible option and tech package a 2018 can get on it from the factory. I'm good with it either way, but now I have piece of mind.

I vote no because it actually only extends the warranty for 4-5 years over the standard warranty. I bought one for my 2015 Jeep TH though because it, believe it or not, is a lifetime warranty! But it costs about $3200, and that is refundable if you trade or sell the Jeep. prorated of course.

If you look at Consumer Reports they don't recommend an extended warranty because the cost is not effective and most new vehicle comes with an effective standard warranty.

I wouldn't put much weight into what Consumer Reports says, they are the same ones saying Tacoma's are no good.

Tell that to the guy who is getting a new transmission covered by the extended warranty.

Fuck no. Arguably the only thing Toyota really does well is make sure all the parts they put in your car are going to last.

Drive an Audi? Consider a warranty. Drive a Land Rover? Consider a warranty. Drive a Tacoma? I'm not gambling with that $1740. That's a decent slice of a down payment on a house.

I thought about an extended warranty at purchase and then remembered I was buying a Tacoma and not a Colorado. I'll give it until the end of the 3-year, then see how things are running.

I bought the 7 year 100k mile Toyota Factory Extra Care Platinum zero deductible warranty that has been well worth it. Truck has seen a complete Icon suspension upgrade and re-geared with zero issues from the dealership in regards to the warranty claims. I had a major coolant leak, replaced the 4x4 actuator, covered diagnostic fee for the transmission update and recently just replaced the radio.

How easy is it to shop around at other dealer for a VSA? It seems the VSA sales pitch is done at the time you sit down with the Finance manager. Obviously you want to try and get best price they will give you. If you go ahead and sign for it, your payments have that cost all baked in. I understand you can cancel within in x days (30 ?). So is it really realistic to shop around with other dealers where you are not buying a vehicle? I am on board with buying a VSA, I know they can be worth it but, would like to minimize the cost.

I did it. The dealer I bought my car did the hard sell for the VSA, which I did purchase. Afterwards, I called around to several other local dealers and finally got a quote for less than half for the same VSA. I canceled the VSA from the old dealer (which you can do directly with Toyota Financial) and repurchased it from the new dealer.

I need to look into this more. I originally denied ext warranty in finance and then he dropped the price (I thought a lot) and went with it. I think it’s only a 7/75 platinum 0 deductible. But I’ll only put on 4-7k a yr and that would still leave me a 50k after warranty is up. I also didn’t get any paperwork for it except 1 piece of paper stating 7/75 platinum 0ded etc

Bought aug31 so I see I wouldn’t get the full refund but they also tacked it on the loan so I’m paying interest on it which is no good

    So that’s a 2 year/15k mile powertrain warranty?

I don’t know, I’m not sure I understand where the 2/15 came from
