On my way to work this morning I was pulled over for not having an inspection sticker on my Civic. I was lacking a sticker because I had the cracked windshield replaced so I could pass inspection, but that's neither here nor there.

While going through my paperwork it turned out that my registration expired 7 days ago. My fault for forgetting to renew, but now my Civic is in the impound yard.

If this was a Monday my day would be complete.

And I'm done venting. Back to work...

Not sure yet. I have to register the vehicle, update my driver's license address (they gave me a ticket for failure to update within 10 days of when I moved), bring proof to the police station, and then I get to find out where my car is and how much the whole thing will cost me. Oh, and I have to pay the tickets too.

I was typically nice and amicable through the whole process so I was surprised at the severity of the response. After talking to some people in town I've been told that in that area people get speeding tickets for 26mph in a 25mph zone. Traffic citations are a huge revenue stream for the town and it's an accepted thing.

Ah well...just have to remember not to give them any reasons in the future.

That's exactly what I'd expected when I got pulled over. I thought the impound step was a bit overboard but at the same time they're completely within their authority to take that step.

Funny thing is that I'm not the type to contest a ticket like that. I was stupid, got caught, and will happily pay the fine. It seems silly to me to go in and try to fight it when it's clear that I was in the wrong. Ah well...we'll see how long it takes for me to get my $500 POS out of impound.

If nothing else, this incident motivated me to order the parts I need to get my truck back on the road. I should have new upper control arm mounting bolts in my possession by tomorrow evening.

I just got my speeding ticket decreased by $50 and to a non-moving violation. I'm having a pretty good day.

In most towns, yes. The guy who owns the tow company said he started towing for that town just so he could drive through without being harassed. Apparently he got his fair share of tickets over the years and decided to do something to improve his odds. Can't blame the guy!

Jerzee blows, everytime I go there I remember why I left. Over here we don't have the time to pull people over.

I worked in East Brunswick for a while. I'm not surprised that they did that at all. Have to get their revenue from somewhere. Another few miles down the road I'm sure the process would have been smoother. It's interesting what the PD's do when all the revenue from tickets goes to the town.

I agree with Shook, I'm glad that I left. In VT I would have probably written you the tickets, allowed you to drive away and if you fixed it within 2 weeks dropped the tickets.

    Ok, shook0002

But I'm a NE Philly girl and on my way to work I was pulled over for an expired registration and my vehicle was impounded!!! I guess Philly cops do have time for it. I became aware of the problem the day before which really sucks for me. It was too late for me to do the online version so I mailed it in. I showed the cop the receipt of the mailed in form (my printer is also a copy machine). He didn't care and took my car. My driver's license, insurance all good. I made a mistake by moving for a couple months to Bensalem and forgot to transfer my registration back to Philly (and my inspection was 4 mos. before registration expiration-so that was no good cue). So no matter where you are you are bait. . . even if you try to address the problem when you become aware of it. . . fresh bait I think in that circumstance. . .
