    Nope.

Florida has no inspections and plates/registration are based on GVW. So $50-ish for the Tacoma.

    No state income tax either.

But please don't move here, we have enough transplants clogging the roads and telling us how much faster and cheaper every thing was up north.

We do have sales tax on non-grocery items @ 6%, and we do have property taxes. Not the worst, but there are others lower.

Point is that all states need operating funds to provide your services. They just collect them in different ways, and folks are impacted in different ways, depending on their situation.

If the services are provided efficiently (or there is a lack of services) then the revenue can be lower and still have a balanced budget.

I am an adult. I read these forums for information, which the OP provided to us who live here. He was not commenting negatively about paying taxes but provided a link that showed we could go two additional years before smogging our vehicles (6 years as opposed to 8). I do not care what your f'ng opinion is of my state. This thread got off-topic due to the very first post (#3) ... just like yours. So now there is endless sh*t posted on this thread from people who think all of us care what their opinion is about taxes and registration fees. The moderators hate these discussions in the 3rd Gen because there is so many of you (and it is an age group who they generally associate with this need) who get threads off-topic. They blame 3rd gen people. I think it is from allowing people like Anchovy and yourself to make posts like this. So keep those comments to yourself. Don't have anything to add to a discussion other than what you think of a geographical area, post your tripe on twitter or other echo chambers where it is ok to articulate your mindless opinions in three word sentences.

Exactly. I grew up in San Diego in the 50s and 60s. When we went up to LA we couldn't breathe.

This thread seems par for the course. Someone posts something and instantly someone has to chime in about how they hate their truck, how backward Toyota is, how the 3rd gen is the worst gen, how so much better the new Ford Ranger will be.

As to this thread being shut down, well the mods are the ones participating...

I believe this time next year a similar thread will be created about the mileage tax they will propose.

I’m aware of the no state income tax and it’s benefits and lack of. Ironically I was in Clearwater in the 90s for a year helping a friend with a business right on Gulf to Bay Blvd. The only time I spend there now is to see my Grandfather in Largo.

So what is the cutoff for a "new" vehicle? Does my '16 count as a new vehicle? So am I good for 8 years instead of 6?

So in 2024, you will need to smog it to renew your license, the rule is 'model years old'.

May i suggest if you live somewhere where the air is bad.. ya might think about leaving.. Here is Texas The standard fee for cars and lighter pickup trucks is a base registration fee of $50.75.

    Air you breath .. Priceless

Good info though.. allot of people dont pay attention to changing laws until they break one of them

Well said Sir! Unfortunately, folks will continue to post tripe as some have a need to be heard, and emotions drive many of these opinions. While I enjoy some of this banter when I am in the proper mood, often times I read toxic postings and say to myself, "oh boy, here we go again." And then I move to the next thread...

I’m sure you were just kidding, but just to clarify... Although we do have strict traffic and inspection laws here in VA, you are not going to be failed just for led reverse bulbs. They can’t even tell the difference for one thing. They are looking more at functioning lights, tire tread depth, brakes, etc. anything they can fail you for while offering to fix it and make some money from. Been here all my life so I have inspected every year since 16 years old and they aren’t going to fail you unless it blatantly obvious you need to fix something. I’m not saying no one has ever been failed for led bulbs, but that has to be an anomalie.

Our property taxes on the other hand are quite expensive.

I'm not the biggest CA fan either, but I find it funny how usually the people bashing it are from states where almost everyone there would rather live in CA. lol

No, not at all. I had my State inspection in a april 2018 prior to PCS’ing our to CA and I had LED reverse lamps in becaus ethey were brighter. They came back and said they weren’t OEM DOT approved and either I buy the OE bulbs and replace them there or I’d fail my inspection. This was done at First Team toyota in Portsmouth.

There’s a tidewater thread in the regions section where a lot of people have commented on the crack down on inspection.

Now I see why. It was a Toyota dealership so they could tell the difference because they see them everyday. If you went to a regular inspection station like most residents you would have likely been fine. Again, not saying it couldn’t happen (anything can happen), but that is definitely a rare thing. Most mechanics can’t tell the difference.

I did have to remove my ditch lights too because they weren’t covered. After that I just bought the covers and left them on until I moved.

My 4R is still registered in VA until 2020 and it only cost me $108 so it’ll stay reg’d there until I retire from the CG

Texas FTMFW! Less than $80 to register, inspection less than $20 and gas around $1.90gal right now. I have family in Califo.....I can't even bring myself to say it anymore....and when they told me it cost them almost $1200 to register ONE car I almost excommunicated them from the family! WTF!!
