Not enough to have a build thread.
I'm choosing our destination because I know of a couple other groups besides mine heading up there. Also, it's pretty easy going. Mostly flat. You know, you've been. If it gets hairy, well stop, hang out, then call it a day. If we make it to the bar, cool.

UTC is Uncle Tom’s Cabin if no one else is going to clarify for you.
    MET is Mormon Emigrant Trail.

Just a reminder to all the “pros” in here....
We were all “rookies” at one point too.
In fact some of you pros could still go for some lessons if ya ask me :notsure:

Someone requested via PM that we dont continue to post that place to keep it from becoming a second MET. That's why I didnt spell it out.

I won't claim to be a pro, but as far as lessons go, does that mean you're coming up with me on sunday? My trucks changed a little since you saw it last. I've got all these nifty new things I have no idea how to use :bananadance:

Its not exactly a secret spot by any means. We went on a organized toy run up there with a group that had a hundred+ trucks.

Now posting up private camp spots and secrets locations i agree with keeping private. Definitely.

As for sunday.....maybe. Gotta see to how whitegirl wasted i get tonight

I agree. I didnt think it was that secret and that's why I wasnt concerned before. But I respect the individual who pmed me. So at the very least, out of respect for him, I wont post up more than the initials anymore. If you google "UTC California" you mainly come up with time zone stuff. So I feel that's safe and respectful.

In that photo I'm at 6500' and about 2 miles into the trail. There's 12" of fresh powder on top of about 12" of crusted icy shit. I went up to about 8500' and another 3 miles in. At that elevation there was 24+ inches of fresh snow on top of even deeper icy crusted shit. I turned around at a steep off camber downhill. I probably could have made it but the risk in that case was not worth the reward. It's a trail local to me that I know very, very well.

Even knowing it well, in blizzard conditions, I missed the main road turn and ended up on a harder spur road that reconnects to the main trail after 1/2 mile. That was truly an oh shit moment. My rigs dual cased and dual locked. I needed every bit of the dual locked to reconnect to the main road. It was snowing hard enough that by the time I turned around and headed out all my tracks coming in where covered. Getting out the snow in that photo was about 24" deep.

I'm also far from a rookie and far from unprepared. If you go solo have recovery gear and the skills to use them. Let someone know what your planned route is. Have a capable rig and be on your A-game as a driver. Have a go bag as a last resort. Some of my best days of wheeling ever have been solo.
