Loved watching him in Carolina. Gritty play, ridiculous strength. I wonder when they will retire his jersey? I was there when Ron Francis had his number hung in the rafters, awesome and emotional night. The entire team wore number 10 for pregame skate. Best part was Ronnie dressed out and did a farewell lap with his sons. Seeing him in the sweater one last time was cool. I hate I missed Wesley's retirement.

$102 million WTF ? That's a baseball contract .

 

It is front loaded because they average the salary over the contract duration to apply it to the team's salary cap .

Still , do you really think he will make that kind of impact ? I don't , but we will see soon enough .

It's over 17 years actually. 17 years for $102 million isn't even close to a baseball contract. That's only an average of $6 million a year. Granted it probably is front loaded, but I doubt he will be making more than $10 million a year the first couple of seasons. To be considered the "best free agent since the lock out" and get 17 years/$102m is great, but if the "best free agent since the strike" happened in baseball you'd be looking at 10 years/$300-400m. Good for him though. Hopefully the Devils can capitalize on him now that they have him locked up for life.

You betcha. For the amount of torment these guys put their bodies thru they are the only ones I can justify paying big money to...Ironically enough they tend to be the most selfless. Could you imagine the pay day A-Rod or any of the various football guys that holdout for larger contracts would demand?...Then again I doubt they would ever play a game in the league if they pulled the same shenanigans, some one would be sure to put them in their place. Only thing bigger then the price tag on their contract would be the price tag on their head.

Ha, this just in. The NHL shot down the Kovi contract saying that NJD's made the contract so long that they could lower the avg cap hit--basically cheating. Here's the link for anyone interested:

I was thinking they were pushing the cap loophole boundary , the NHL wants to close this loophole , they have been talking about it all last year .
