Final draft of the 3rd Gen will be out this week. Took some time, but I think I turned out really sweet. It keeps the same mirror body line which I really wanted. There is zero room behind the panel, so I tried to tuck it in as best as possible while still keeping it integrated looking.
Leave it to Toyota that each side is not symmetrical
Was thinking about keeping the vortex generators, but there would only be room for like 2..IDK

Will also have the first rough draft of the 2nd gen puddle pod as well...:D

Kings, 275/70/17, a few custom items, lots of Meso mods.
If they had put the spring tower on top like these other mirrors you would've had plenty if room. Do you have a 3d scanner for the basic design? Those look great.

He has a couple of flux capacitors piggybacked on a 64bit system running an unrealeased version of DOS on Linux

Jk, he has everything. An entire freaking machine shop at his disposal. I’m just glad he doesn’t drive a Ford lmao

I would think the bump from the LED would, itself be a vortex generation.

Meso does great work, have a few of the items already, and these are a must!

Quick question... what was the original engineering reason for vortex generators on the mirrors (I’m a pilot and know the aerodynamic principals involved as VGs are strategy placed on most jet aircraft). Looking at the 4 (more of a line/bump of plastic) on the mirror bottom, they appear to be designed to deflect and reduce side noise as there is no real reason to assist aerodynamic lifting of the mirror, that I can imagine.

Yes, I 3d scan the stock plastic cover then modify the CAD.
    :hattip:
From what I can gather, VG's were placed around the vehicle in different locations(rear tail light, lower rear quarter panels, mirrors, etc) for better MPG and wind noise. He explains it here: https://youtu.be/QFR4ruhRDEE?t=293
Take it for what its worth... it's coming from Mr. Sweers himself:rofl:

I would expect they would have drastic effects on the drag of the truck....

Im a mechanical engineer, took some aerospace fluid mechanics classes in school but don't work on that stuff at all so this is all just guessing...

I remember reading about so of the work Tesla was doing with the design work for the first cars after the roadster. They did the prototype without windshield wiper blades. The car had a crazy low coefficient of drag. They put wipers on and it skyrocketed like crazy. They then had to spend a lot of time engineering the wiper system to reduce the drag

In comparison to, say, the massive square block on the front end of the truck?

Yes... That doesn't help, but effect of anything sticking off the truck causes exponentially more turbulence

There are many manuf’s putting side cameras on that stick out way more than these puddles.
    upload_2019-2-9_9-31-48.jpg

I don’t think there will be any negative effects on MPG or noise as my puddle pods are pretty shallow and aerodynamic.

Even the 2020 Tacoma has cameras under the mirrors.

I doubt these puddles will make noise and if they do it will just sound like

Look on the bottom of the mirrors you will see an indent
    and then
looking at @KTJO 4x4 post on the camera view it’s the most logical place for that camera to be coming from.
So my guess is that’s it right there.

Thanks!! Looks like the same cutout and placement as my T4R.(in the outter mirror itself) the puddle pods will be closer on the base of the mirror, so they should still work with the OEM side cameras.

Well at least let’s hope it is T4R and not a 100% new redesign. At least that way the t4r boys will be happy. Other plus is you have one to test on now so when 2020 comes you will be already ready.
