Mine is the race shift kit. The HD2. The 1-2 is MUCH improved with new leafs. So maybe you should try that. The ride and every shift feels so much better. Toyota stock leafs are garbage.

I didn't really even clean them... This is pretty much the way it was when I opened it up.

The entire trans is really clean and the fluid is really still pretty red. I'm thinking I made a score when I got this trans.

Good deal, the valve body and the clutches tell most of the story. If it had been abused but they changed the fluid as trickery that valve body wouldn't be so clean, it would almost be muddy texture.

Ya, this fluid has a slight brown tinge to it but still red. It feels just like trans fluid out of the bottle and there is very little grey on the screens that are above the accumulators.

The yard said it was from a 98 with 136k miles on it. I haven't found anything that tells me they were lying, or that the trans saw any abuse.

It actually hasn't been that bad. All the accumulators are done and I've replaced the spring in the PR Valve. Now it's just drilling the shift holes and re-assembly.

Damn, mine had a few areas with that muddy texture you describe. I’ve never had any slips or anything like that. Hopefully I’ll be okay with the shift kit and all. I’ll add that the pan was clean besides the magnets had some buildup on them. 130k on the clock.

I wouldn't worry about it if it's acting alright. A lot of that slop that forms is from poor fluid change habits. I'd make sure you're keeping up on your spill and fills. Doesn't always mean the clutches are beaing eaten alive, although it doesn't really help their life either if the fluid isn't kept fresh.

Yes, absolutely. It was highly recommended to do and I’m glad I did as my finger lifted up on one of the old ones where the accumulators go and broke it.

I posed a pic, hows it look? When I got the truck @ 110k the fluid was probably factory. Was brown with some red. So I’ve done 4 drain and fills since then to clean all the old fluid out.

Well fuck... I didn't think about getting those. Did you get yours from the dealer?

The instructions say there are 7 different versions of this VB gasket, not sure how I'll match them up to make sure I get the right one.

I bought all of them from Transgo. I’d be happy to ship the ones I didn’t need. I could probably next day air them. I had a type 3 VB looks like you have 1 or 2.
