I've been lurking around for a while researching third gens and finally found the one I had to get. I've wanted a 4X4 Toyota pickup ever since I saw Back to the Future.

I just took a trip to the mountains with my wife and I love this truck. I was ready for the lack of power and the quirky transmission from reading posts here, and even with those issues, they are minor/non existent on my truck. At least for now.

Here is my "new" toy next to my old 1990 C1500.

Congrats on the new ride. As for the quirky transmission, use the ECT power button(above cup holders) to make trans more responsive in town and back roads, highway it doesn't have much effect, much happier with mine since I started using the ECT power button. As far as the engine goes it wants to be revved to get the power out of it(3500-6000rpms it comes alive), drive it like you stole it and you won't feel it is under powered. Good luck and be warned if you spend much time on here you will be spending money on truck stuff.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the welcome.

I will try the ECT button. I’ve only had her for a couple of days and still getting used to everything. So far I love the truck. It’s more than I imagined. Just read about the oil filter though. Kind of a bummer, but it’s the same thing as is on my daughters Mazda 3, so no biggie.

I also bought a 2016 TRD Off-road a few months ago and I love it. Has been a great truck so far! Enjoy it!

If you mean because filter is an element style, it's been used for years on Toyota's with no real issues, other than cracked plastic cap. But you do need a special socket/cup to take it off, think they are widely available, Amazon Etc.

Welcome! Nice taco! And I think the issues you read on Tw when it comes to the 3rd gen are blown way out of proportion for the most part.

    Cheers

I use a product called Awesome. I get it at either Dollar General or The Dollar Store. It’s a yellow liquid in a spray bottle in the cleaning isle. Just spray on straight, brush with an old stiff brush and spray off with water. Might take two or three times, but it works for me. It’s a great de greaser.

    Amazon also has it.

Great looking truck. Quicksand with black trim is one of my favorites. Looks like you have a tonneau cover on there, what brand is it?

Thank you. I’ve been looking for this color / equipped truck for a couple of months and with the heated seats, dual climate control, towing, TDR 4x4 packages, it was hard to find just how I wanted it.

The cover is a factor/dealer cover. It’s not totally waterproof, but I don’t care. It will do what I need it to do.

I found a video this morning about Hurricane Creek in the Western NC/Tennessee area and I can’t wait to give it a go off road.
