Have oil in the coolant reservoir. Can anybody help??

I had oil in the coolant reservoir about a month ago. I brought it to toyota and they replaced the oil cooler around the filter. Then today I checked the reservoir and found oil floating in the coolant. I only have 6K on the engine. has anyone else had this problem??

 

Thats most likely bad gasket, Toyota owes you new engine, dont take refurbish.

Damn on a new truck!

 

It could be as simple as a head gasket leak -- in which case a new head gasket would fix the problem. Even better, maybe they didn't fully flush the cooling system when they 'fixed' it last time.

Or it could be a cracked or porous block.

Are you sure it's engine oil and not trans fluid?

 

I dont care if its a headgasket, no one would be pulling apart my brand new engine with 6k on it, changing the headgasket and puttin it back together again...they'd be givin me a brand new engine and showing me the new engine while its stilll in the crate just to make sure theyre doing the right thing...

 

I'm positive it's not tranny fluid. last time they flushed the system twice

 

If you want to increase your chances of getting the best deal. Keep taking the truck back to them -- let them keep on trying till after the 3rd time then you have leagle options available to you under the lemon law. Every state has different requirements but if you keep on giving them the chance to fix the problem and they don't the state will make them do it. VERY important -- document everything keep records of times, names and any and all paperwork.

Follow that and you will get a new truck. If you force the issue now they may just replace parts till it is fixed and then you'll have who know what type of quality work do on your truck

 

That's some bs you should take it in and tell them you want a new motor now no exceptions it already messed up they can't just change the coolant and drain the oil and change the gasket and expect not to be damaged. I had a car were the same thing happened and the valves started ticking the motor was garbage. Don't take any crap from the dealer its a brand new truck

 

Yeah, I agree that Toyota owes you a brand new motor out of a crate, and not a overhauled motor.

Might be a good idea to contact a "Lemon lawyer".

 

You should probably buy the extended warranty if all they do is fix the leak.

 

They aren't going to do that unless the block is damaged. And then they'd replace the block only, unless the head(s) were damaged.

Replacing a head gasket would be the correct repair if that's the only problem.

 

I would fight with the dealership about getting a new engine. When you get engine oil in the coolant you more than likely have coolant in the oil which is murder on plain bearings. Which many things in the engine have like your main crank bearings and the rod bearings.

 

Well I think we all know not to listen ( JKD ) the damage is done already you can't just over look something like this its going to cause problems in the future

 

Good luck. Toyota is pretty good with trying to keep customers happy, but I don't think it's going to extend to installing a brand new engine if a simple repair will do the job. Even if you made them replace the main bearings, it's still going to be cheaper for them to replace the head gaskets and bearings than it would be to replace the engine--by a factor of about 10.

Look up the lemon law in your state, OP. You're already on at least visit two for the same problem--if you get to enough visits or time out of service (depending on your state law) you could go through the lemon law process to get a new truck.
