Good morning everyone. Happy Saturday.

Making a trip to Ikea in New Haven this morning. Wife wants to buy a shelf thingy, like one we bought there a few years ago.

 

Well of course they won't sell that one anymore! But they'll have something similar that doesn't quite match...
Better buy two & move the old unit to the garage for Taco parts.

Spent some time yesterday finalizing the cb install. Installed the end connector on the antanne cable; soldered it up; ran power and ground, and had by brothers swr meter on hand (thanks @vssman for reaching out a couple weeks ago but it’s been busy and I learned he had one laying around). Went to the Farmington flats to test everything and tune the antannae.

Radio has power, but swr meter doesn’t show a reading and speaker on the cb is silent.

The radio was gifted to me used, and I can’t imagine someone gifting a bum radio but I’m at a loss. With the swr meter being unreactive in all conditions while keying in, I’m wondering if the radio isn’t transmitting.

I’ll be spending today trying to research and diagnose the problem. Fingers crossed.

 

Check the cable for a short or open. Ring out the cable with an ohm meter. Center conductor to the shield should be open. Then ring out each end; center to center and shield to shield. Each of those should have good conductivity. Also, some radios will go silent if the mic cable isn't connected properly so you might have an issue there. If those are good then I'm at a loss and would guess it's the radio. However, usually you only have problems with the Tx side or Rx, not both. Think of it. I know my vintage CB goes silent without the mic cable attached. So I'd give that a good look see.

 

Make sure RF gain(if you have it) is turned down.
