Duralast looks, acts, and is an exact match of the original OEM. You might spend 2x as much to get 10% more life out of the next one. I only buy batteries that are NOT maintenance free because you get more life out of them checking and adding distilled water when necessary.

 

When winching on a single battery setup and living in a cold climate, it's nice to have a higher quality battery. I've been abusing my Northstar for a couple years now and have way more confidence in it than most of the other options out there.

 

I almost splurged on the Northstar, but when I found out the Duracell was 840 CCA's vs the listed 710 CCA- I decided to pocket the $200; if the Duracell doesn't give me the longevity or performance I need- the Northstar will be definitely be my next battery

 

Just picked up a Bosch 27F at Pep Boys about a month ago. $20.00 off if you order it online then come in for free installation. Plus there was a 20.00 rebate. Took me down to under $100. My 4th Bosch battery and they have been reliable through the warranty period. The one I just replaced recently turned 8 years old and was going strong. I NEVER wait for a battery to shit the bed, though.

 

Whatever suits. Everyone has decisions to make. For those who don't feel comfortable with an Interstate, Duralast, or Napa battery, they make Northstar, Optimas & XS Power especially for you. Many folks don't feel comfortable having the garage on the corner working on their vehicle. For those folks we have a dealership. For me, "I" feel comfortable with Blem batteries, & the local garage working on my stuff, but that's just me. Whatever makes someone feel good is fine, Nothing wrong with buying a $200 or $300 battery, if that is what it takes to make "YOU", nobody else matters, feel comfortable. It's good that whatever you want, or need, it's out there,,,,, Except for a nice, new, well equipped Toyota Tacoma Reg. Cab 4X4 with a 6 cyl. eng.

 

So I took my 2017 Taco in to the dealer two months ago cuz it peptide falling on its face. Throttle would hesitate before it would take off. Lotsa hesitation at the start then it would level out... At freeway speeds it would level out at 70, but when I gave it gas, it would power down slightly en take off.

I took it in for service and explained the problem. I doub they tested the battery but dealer said they reprogrammed the computer. It ran ok for a while. More responsive for sure which seemed to mask the problem.

Woke up this morning and battery is dead. Took the taco in at 24,000.... Mileage now is 30,000

Is this warranty related? Should I complain?

Someone help me out with strategy.... Thanks in advance!

 

I’m not certain that the battery is covered under the bumper to bumper 36k warranty, but I would expect and argue that it is and have them replace it under the bumper to bumper warranty for free.

 

Do you think I have some ground to stand on since I brought up the hesitation? Do you think it was related?

 

Seems unlikely to be related. Once the vehicle is running you are using alternator power, not battery power. Regardless of previous issues I’d still expect the dealer to cover the battery under the 36k bumper to bumper warranty, an you only have 30k miles.

they must be putting in crappier batteries than they used to- all these 2015+ batteries failing already; I just replaced mine at seven years old and that's in one of the coldest parts of the country

 

I know, I have noticed that also since I have a 15. I did pop the caps on my battery about a month ago and each cell nearest the two terminals was low. I topped them off with distilled water and then hooked up my smart charger for a over night fix. But it hasn’t shown any signs of slow cranking even in our last coldest temps below zero.

best longest lasting batterys I ever had were the ones that come with the truck from the factory, most of the aftermarket batterys ive has(sears Diehard) would shit the bed a week after the warranty was up

 

Of course yours lasted that long, heat is what kills batteries - not cold. The first cold weather is usually when you discover the battery is on the way out but it is summer heat that actually shortens its life.

Mobile right now so can’t find a link but there are maps showing expected life of an auto battery. Three years or less in AZ and seven or more in MA.

still seems like something changed with the 15+ vehicles, didn't seem to see so many battery failures, so soon with previous years and oe batteries

 

Yep there could certainly be a batch of low quality batteries for sure. I know some recent Subarus had crap batteries. My Forester OEM battery lasted less than two years in a mild to cool climate!
And there were lots of similar reports in the Subaru forums on that.

My 2015 Tacoma went 3.5 yrs on its OEM but it is in Vegas so about to be expected really. But if people are only getting 3 in mild climates something is wrong!

 

My Duracell Gold (I think) died 3 weeks before the 3-year AutoZone warranty expired.

Got a new one for free... So, yes please.
