The Corolla Hatchback with the manual trans doesn’t have the ability to remote start. I assume it is a liability thing.

I did not get it either till I have one. Now my Taco and the wife's car both have PTS.

To put it into perspective, go from driving a MT as you DD for months, then drive an AT for the same amount of time. The first few times you reach for the shifter, after a week not so much, a couple weeks later it is a rare occurrence, after that it only happens when you are dog tired or have just spent a day with a MT. PTS/Keyless is the same way. Last time I have to move someone's car that used a keyed ignition it took me looking around the wheel to find the ignition and stab in the key. Prior to having a PTS I could slip the key in while sitting down with no real effort.

You would be amazed at how quickly it feels natural to not pull you keys out to open the door or start the truck. I think it felt odd for about 1 or maybe weeks. Now getting into the office or house seems like a PITA because I have to fish the keys out of my pocket. I guess I need to get an Alexa enabled lock on the house so I can just walk up and say "Alexa, open the door.":rofl:

Agreed on the button. When I worked at Honda, I'd occasionally have to use a loaner car for errands. It felt weird and I felt like.. naked not having to use a key? I don't understand whats so difficult about turning a key.

Also, legitimate question: Can you leave the car running and walk away from it? I warm my truck up during these winter mornings and go back in the house (no remote start obviously) and I've wondered how that'd work if I got one of these new Tacomas.

Or do you still use a key on these but hit a button instead of turning it?

Comparing a MT to an AT was a bad example, AT feels foreign and always will to me.

To start the truck the key has to be inside, once started you can walk away. The truck will beep 3 times to remind you the key has left the truck. If you want to lock the door you must slide the key out of the fob and use the keyhole (I think).

I typically, start my truck, clear the wife's windows and wish her a good day, clear my windows, then hop in and go.

The truck will run without the fob inside and can be driven away. Once the truck is turned off it will not start again without the fob being present, you will also not be able to lock the doors after closing them without the key fob.. I see this as a bit of a security "loophole" and think it should not be allowed to shift out of park unless they key is present. Another option would be to kill the engine when trying to shift out of park without the key. However, other than a carjacking there are likely few scenarios that would separate key from truck, possibly a spouse starting vehicle and the other drives it to work discovering they forgot their key. :notsure:

Drive an AT for the length of time that you have driven MT and it will not.

I know because that is where my life has gone. If I were still physically able, I would be in a MT and quite possibly still have a bike in the drive. Life has a way of changing you and your perspective. ;)

30 days was the longest I have ever driven an Automatic when my old 2000 Tacoma was crashed, hated every minute of it and never got used to it.

I’d like to assume people wouldn’t be fools and remote start their trucks in gear or without the brake pulled, but

I love reading the 33” -> 34” conversations and it end up going in the direction of ‘it’s only a few pounds more per tire’ in regards to transmission/power/gearing questions. There’s a reason why your fuel economy goes in the toilet when you go from P-rates econo 31” to E-rated 33” ATs

@mesojdm and @crashnburn80 have (nearly) killed my excitement for the new lights. Still, I know one of them will buy a set and test :D

This begs the question if the Apple Car play/android capabilities will be offered as an update for current 3rd gens. I'd donate a kidney to have the apple car play functionality without having to replace the radio altogether.

After years of people complaining like crazy and after Mazda saying they couldn’t do it, they now offer retro CarPlay upgrades free for some models and for a couple hundred bucks for others. Maybe it can be done but am not sure about the Toyota system.

Annoying if they won't give us remote start in MT though. They should be able to check electronically if in neutral and P-brake on and obviously can electronically bypass clutch requirement to start since the CSC button exists.

I mentioned it in another thread but I wouldn't get too excited just yet about that cubby returning. The truck on display is a preproduction model and if they have been working on for awhile is probably a 2018 model.

My 2015 Mini is MT and has push button start. As you as you press in the clutch, the car fires right up.
