Would you plasti dip these sr5 rims black?

Have an sr got sr5 rims for cheap. Rims sorta match color of truck, but looking for opinions. Getting 265 75 16s at some paint and spacers and small lift.
Would u dip them? Or leave them? Thanks!

 

I would leave them as is.

I personally can tell when wheels are OEM ones that have been plasti dipped. For me they dont look great.

If you have a small lift, spacers, and more aggressive tires you will get a nice OEM sporty look. If you plasti dipp them, it will look cheap IMO.

I think if you are diligent, provide ample coats, and use a razor to cut away dip in crevices, your rims could look solid. There are plenty of strong opinions of dip on here, but when it's done as stated above, it lasts and doesn't "look cheap" IMO. It simply looks like you painted something a matte black.

EDIT: I'd dip um because you can always remove dip!

 

powder coat them. will hold up way better.

 

I agree that blacked out factory wheels don't look good.

You've obviously got the inkling to try, or you wouldn't have posted. The only thing you lose, if you don't like it, is a couple of bucks and some time. I've dipped an old grille and new grille and bezel. I blew it the first time, started over, and enjoyed every minute of it. Again, a lot of strong opinions but if you think you might like it, it's a cheap and reversible way to do things. Have some fun and good luck!

It’s all about personal preference and how you like it. Try it. Worse case scenario peel off.

 

Please don't spray that crap on a nice set of wheels. The plastic dip has its place and not on nice wheels. It will never come off that easy.

 

I think they look good as-is, honestly.

Personally, I think the only plasti dip jobs that look high quality are the ones that use the "true metallics" line and have a proper glossifier finish. If you just dip 'em black it will look cheap...like the 17 year old across the street did to his '07 Civic.

You'd probably be happier taking the extra time to do a proper paint job with some high quality wheel paint in the long run, and if "money ain't a thing" get 'em powder coated.

I will say I've had good results with all these options and they are all durable finishes if u do them the right way. Again, I highly recommend the anthracite grey true metallic plastidip if u go that route. Just ends up looking much more legit:

I used the anthracite gray and glossifier on my sr5 wheels. I didn’t do the best job but it’s good enough for now. Will probably powder coat when it’s time to replace the tires.

 

I just got 265 75 16’s right after Christmas and it filled out the wheel wells nicely. I was going to get rims as well but ya know, the stock SR5 rims have grown on me and I think look really good.

Next is going to be 1.5” spacers and maybe some custom center caps. But here is my truck for reference.

 

True - plastidip is NOT fun or easy to remove in my experience. I'm sure there is some kind of hack out there but if you aren't all in on the dipped look not sure I'd go down that route thinking it won't be a PITA to get them back to stock.

I do tend to reserve plastidip for steelies or beat up wheels that need new life. Those on your truck are nice and look nice!

 

Yup like @Beau_Higgins said. With a glossifier it doesnt look as bad. But plain plasti dip looks CHEAP no matter the prep and application.
