Correct. That's what they want you on so you know if there is action in the area. The rigs are supposed to call out their mile markers if they're traveling at speed.

Chat should be kept to a minimum when they're around to keep the band free. But let's be honest . It's 4 watts of power. It's not going that far and if you can't hear them, they can't hear you. So it's just a matter of using some sense of how to handle the channels.

With that being said, a ham license comes in handy as well if some folks don't have it.

    $15 for the license.
    $25 radio
    $28 antenna

And you'll have more reach than CB (not including CB SSB)

And that's the last I'll bring that up unless anyone has any questions and wants to message me on that matter.

Try using an app for the phone. Just study the correct answers and nothing else. The key is to get the ticket. The real world learning comes after.

The test itself is 35 questions and it's all multiple choice. A lot of people make it first shot .Some miss it by a couple questions and mail it the second time no problem.

The reward is you can roll in a rig with 50 watts power instead of 4 and have channels that aren't plugged up. If anyone is interested in just shoot me a message. I was hitting NY from some of the mountains north of Katahdin

I thought they were using the FRS bands? They were having issues with the hunting dog collars stepping on the channels

From what we've seen, forest shacks up there use MURS, the loggers use 19 or both . But when you get up there you can't go more than 5 miles without seeing a channel 19 sign. You only start to see the MURS channels north of telos

Yup. MURS is what you are thinking of @Arcticelf . Its not very common. Its a different, lower frequency band than FRS/GMRS
