I can imagine. My dad, mom, grandfather (dad's side), grandmother (dad's side), grandfather (mom's side), aunt (mom's side), 2 cousins (mom's side), great grandfather and his brother (dad's side), great great grandfather and his brother (same side) all served. According to family history, I'm the 9th straight generation to serve in the Army, and across the board my family has had around 20% serving continuously since the late 1800s.

Eta: that record is kinda shot now with me getting out and only one cousin I know of that commissioned a couple years back

I wish I could have stayed in longer, but I had to leave for medical reasons. My dad did over 29 years active duty retiring in 2008. I was a PFC at his retirement ceremony lol. I don't know who was more proud, me at his retirement, or him when I graduated basic training.

 

The service matters, not the rank. Bottom to top, you have served. And we all thank you, with pride.
You are going to extend your neighbors lifetime by years just by chatting him up on the porch. And that is some more service right there!

 

I'd love to talk to him. I've been thinking of transferring from my dad's VFW to whichever one is near me.

Eta: Anybody with the local VFW in Temple?

 

Do you have patches in your truck (inside roof)? I was searching for Service patches with Velcro, but dang near impossible to come by. Without, lots of selection. I figured out how to DIY, maybe you get the info, I get you a patch to Velcro inside for you, and one for him to know it's still being carried around? @T4Rgurl , we had this conversation - could not find. Figured it out.
