    Couple questions for fellow Coloradoans...

If lifting my 2004 DC TRD, and looking for 2.5-2.75" lift, and with 500lbs +/- EDD in the back...
    1. Can I get away with some sort of AAL in the back?
    2. If going with Bilsteins at all four corners, would I want 5100's or 5125's in the back? If 5125's... what length?
    3. Has anyone done 5100's in the front with OME 882's in front? How did it work / ride?
    4. Has anyone done OME 882's in front with Nitrocharger Sports (90004's) with Bilstein's in the back? Did that work, or did it suck?
I am thinking that if I cannot get away with some sort of AAL in the back for a year or so... and have to replace the rear leaf springs, then I'm going with OME Dakars + D43XL's... and if I have to do that, then I may as well go full OME, and just suck the bill.

    Thoughts?

If you're doing OME springs, I'd recommend just going with nitrochargers especially in the front. I currently have 882's with nitrochargers in the front and dakar leafs in the rear. One of my rear nitrochargers blew so I pulled them out and threw in a set of 5100's temporarily. They feel fine but I still plan on warrantying the nitrochargers and putting them back in.

Are you running the OME 60062's in the back (the regular Nitrocharger Sports), or the heavy duty 60065's?

I have the 60062's. However, I don't have the OME AAL. Is that what the 60065's are meant for?

I have NO idea. I think I may have asked that question elsewhere here on TW, but have yet to see an answer.

Any idea how much weight you can put on your Dakars before they really start to sag? Or, how much weight in back == 1" sag?

I haven't really done any measurements but I haven't noticed any sag when I load up my truck with the stuff I usually carry.

Here's the best comparison I have:

Loaded up with all my camping gear including a couple large coolers full of shit

    Completely unloaded

The regular dakars definitely create some rake when unloaded.

Edit: Also the top pic has 882's in the front with a winch and the bottom has 883's with no winch

Phil, could you take me for a short ride somewhere so I can experience your 882 / Dakar ride?

What bumper / winch are you running up front? Looks like some armor underneath? Sliders? (Do you have a build thread?)

What is your timeframe on getting your rear Nitros warrantied and back on? When you do, would you be looking to sell the rear 5100s?

Yeah you’re more than welcome to. Although I do have e-rated tires which contribute quite a bit to the ride in my truck.

I called OME and I just have to send them proof that the shock is blown and they’ll send out a new one without me having to send them my broken one. I haven’t done it yet because I’m just lazy...

How do you plan on using your truck?

Regardless. 5100s suck. Wouldn't bother with an AAL for your old leaf packs. OME rear shocks are too short.

I don't know about heart break. More like saving him from future headaches.

They're great if you like super soft valving, oil leaking everywhere, and bent shafts. :p

I use my truck for land surveying. Lot's of highway miles. But also construction sites. Farm tracks out east tend to be bumpy / rough. The closer I can get to a property corner or section corner in the foothills mountains... the less humping with 25-40lb of survey gear I have to do. This means driving forest service roads, trails, 4x4 tracks, overland, through woods (though I tend to avoid downed timber... lots of sharp pointy stumps and branches etc). Driving the kinds of trails lambo had at the start of his build thread look fun. Dirt / gravel roads like the one south from Bailey past Wellington Lake tend to get pretty heavily washboarded. The faster I can drive those without beating the heck out of everything in the bed or cab is a plus.

I think my stock suspension, esp. in the back may be shot. So anything, even Bilsteins, is probably an improvement.

Bent shafts and oil leaking everywhere sounds like someone beat on them pretty hard? Or is that just from "normal" off-roading? What does "super soft valving" mean? I thought the 880/881/882's + 90004's were softer than 5100's?

The softer OME shocks are still quite a bit firmer than 5100s. They feel wallowy and under-dampened. I've seen at least three with bent shafts and many more that let the oil out.

For the cost of an OME front setup, it might be worth keeping an eye out for a used set of coilovers. Otherwise, the 90004s and either 881s or 882s make for a fairly competent front setup.

Not a huge fan of Dakars, but you can't beat the price. Worth paying a few more dollars to pair them with some 2.0 foxes or icons vs the OME rear shocks.

Yeah I've been somewhat disappointed in the OME setup. I thought it was gonna be more than what it is. My perception of OME was based on my parents truck that crossed Australia multiple times 20 years ago but they seem to have gone downhill since then. I've come to realize that what I do with my truck and what I want to do with my truck exceeds the capabilities of my current OME setup...
