Yeah, I have a few of my worn unit patches on my headliner. The original hook-end of the issued patches sticks perfectly to the headliner.

 

Crack me up Matt! Even I have (for Scouts, ceremonies, etc!) That one's funny!

I always pictured a bunch of disgruntled vets of all ages making fun of one another an slammin beers an wore out bar fly’s around chain smoking an sounding like a gravely voiced trucker. Saying Hey Sug with a half smoked Marlboro red hanging out their lip.

That is the picture of every one I have been in when there is NOT a ceremony! But, (from an outsider), I think that's because there are not younger ones to relate them to modern pictures, and bars tend to serve one of two purposes in history. Celebrate! or Commiserate!

It's those day to day involvements that make any place much different. Need a purpose, or friends that are deeper than the two excuses. VFW posts could really be like "Cheers", if the folks there let it. So much in common, deeper than the surface stories.

All truth. I remember my dad telling me of a Christmas meeting at the local bar (their club is small and doesn't have a tap lol), and there was two WW2 vets, one was a LTC during some operation and the other was some NCO rank and they just about beat each other with oxygen tanks arguing about some combat mission from the 40s. Good times.

 

Thank you. You remember my age, and the kids that came home didn't do much to cheer up old VFW guys, as Nam was not a very good experience. A lot different for younger generations. Not that any war is any easier, but far more support for returning Vets than when my pix of those places got formed. There was "no one like you" in those buildings. Many place, bet it is still the same. Just my 2 cents, and all due respect.

 

Vets of any time deserve respect for what they did during service, no matter the job they held. Paper pushers, shit-burners and food-cookers. The ones that don't? We police our own lol.
