I’m running the synthetic Supertech stuff from Walmart. It’s all from the same manufacturer as the other big brand stuff anyway.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
Whatever helps you sleep at night.

I don't run WalMart brand oil in my engine (to be replaced every few thousand miles). I'm certainly not going to run it in my trans for 10x the amount of miles.

They come from the same big name oil companies.

The WalMart Quaker State oil is made by Shell Oil (SOPUS), and the SuperTech stuff is made by Warren Oil.

Redline is made by Phillips 66, who also has Chevron-Phillips Chemical and 76 as subsidiaries.

In the respect of many of the oils coming from the same manufacturer... They are made to different specifications. Even if Supertech was made in the same house as Quaker State... It doesn't mean it's the same oil (having the same characteristics)

And... I can assure you there is more research and development put in to Redline's formula than Supertech's formula... And they are not made in the same house.

ATF wise I can understand why going for Redline is preferable since you don’t change it often. I used SuperTech because it’s what I used in my 4WD swap intending to switch it with Mobil 1 eventually. I just haven’t had a reason to yet, it hasn’t given me any issues.

Synthetic Engine oil is hard to mess up, I run Mobil 1 just off personal preference.

I am TOTALLY a Mobile 1 engine oil guy. That stuff is consistently rated #1 by all kinds of publications... And after recently doing my valve covers at 290k miles. I believe the results speak for themselves.

The heat varnish is not at all due to Mobile 1. I believe it's due to the fact the my truck ran hot all the time until I replaced the radiator last year.

There is absolutely no build up or sludge or anything bad whatsoever in my valve train.

Everyone seems to like it so it’s what I run. I wouldn’t have an issue running other oil brand though.

Dropped the rear driveline off to have it balanced. (Will be able to pick it up before this weekend)

Valve body gaskets got here today. So I was able to reassemble the valve body and close up the transmission.

Little by little it's coming together

So... The driveline shop called. And the back half is going to have to be cut and re-welded because he can't get it balanced.

The $165 balance just ballooned to $300.

I should have jst bought a new fucking Spicer driveline.

That isn't right. My driveshaft only cost $140 to cut, shorten, weld and re-balance with new tubing. That's labor and material.

Wait... I thought I remembered you doing an automatic 4x4 swap. Did you turn around and put a 5 speed in after that? Might be mistaken.

Yeah man, I got tired of driving automatic. I successfully pulled it off, no check engine light or any issues.

5 speed will never be under consideration for an off road vehicle of mine... Too many levers and pedals for me.

Thanks for detailing out the tranny work. Maybe i missed this but why did you put a shift kit in?

Also what length is your middle drive shaft flange to flange?

Good luck with the install. I look forward to see how it goes for you. I am looking for two weekends to stick my tranny in.

    Thanks.
