So long time lurker first time poster here. I bought a 2019 TRd off road in October. Today I was out rock hunting with my Daughter and I forgot to lock the truck. So I reached into my pocket and pushed the lock button about a hundred feet away from the truck. Usually I press the button twice so I can hear the beep, this time I did 4. Assumed it was good. Went on our way and came back with a load of rocks about 8 minutes later. When we got there the truck was running and when I opened the door it shut off. Anyone else here get surprised by a remote starter?

Went home and pressed the lock button twice quickly then once more and waited like 5 seconds and after t started right up. Nothing on the window sticker when I bought it. No premium tech. Just the basic non JBL audio and no sunroof setup. I searched the paperwork and could find nothing.

Am I just lucky or is this standard?

That is called “3x lock” and just has to be 3 clicks within a few seconds. You may have gotten it from the factory if the truck was brand new. Check your original window tag or invoice to see if it lists it.
*edit, just read where you said you did all that*
Aftermarket remote start systems can utilize 3 lock (I’m doing it myself with a viper unit) so it’s probably an add-on from the dealer, not the factory

Possibly a dealer add on. Sounds like a good surprise imo. My remote start cuts off as well when doors are opened.

It was not on the sticker and I would have gone years not knowing if it was there. Told my wife it was my trucks Valentine’s Day gift to me since I baby it. She did not like that. Either way, it’s a mod I don’t have to do. But wonder if there are others out there with accidental surprises like this one.

I don’t believe Toyota does an OEM remote start. I thought they were all done after the fact at the dealer. I could be wrong. I have the fortin module purchased through @N2DesignsInc and it’s fantastic.

Going to go push my lock button 3 times before I go to work, not holding my breath though, I don’t have that kind of luck.

It would be an odd coincidence. I’m not that lucky either. I wish my luck was a hacker deleting my student loans but I’ll settle for a remote starter.

The dealership does one but it’s a add on. When I got my truck I got them to throw it in as well as their long range starter. So if you got the regular one on your key I think it was there mistake. Lucky you!

Well all I got done is locking my truck 3 times lol. Glad it worked out for the OP though.

    Your lucky.

I would find out more and get yourself the Long Range remote that should have come with it. After I play Hockey, I can press my L.R. remote from the dressing room and come out to a warmed up Taco! :woot:

Toyota does offer a remote start. My wife's Rav4 came with one that she ordered & was installed at the port when shipping over to US.

Most dealerships do not order them with since they get so many complaints about the short range. I haven't looked at her's yet but I doubt there is a way to add a cell phone module for longer range

I am one of the lucky ones....I have the remote start w/ pressing the lock button 3 times....not sure how long it runs for but got in after 20 minutes to a toasty cab. The dealer told me that "Toyotas don't come with a remote start...No matter what the price point". It does shut the engine down when opening the door.

When did you discover it? Did you know you had it?

Discovered it by accidently pressing the lock button 3x one day a few weeks ago, then confirmed it this am....and no didn't know it....sadly I had an aftermarket installed back in October....

Someone else posted on here a month or so ago that just found out they had a RS that they didn't know about also.

Could be a few dealers actually order them with or have them added locally & then a deal falls through with a customer only to forget they had money put into a system that's not on the main paperwork. Who knows?

So is this an OEM part? If so, what’s the part number?
