For the Diesel Fans / Believers

I had a 13 x5 (not diesel) before my tacoma. I enjoy my tacoma allot more.

 

Historically speaking the ROTW gets the more exciting vehicles. I would throw my money at Toyota for a diesel Tacoma. With that said it would most likely be a major disappointment just like the baby duramax. So Toyota how about the 4.7 in a Tacoma....now that would be a lot of fun.

 

There are rumors the next Tundra and Land Cruiser could get a 3.5 turbo. With TNGA-F bring designed to minimize costs, it would great to see it carry over to the 4R and Tacoma.

 

It's pretty much guaranteed that the next Gen 4R is gonna get the 3.5.

 

I am not talking about the 3.5 from the Tacoma. I am talking about the twin turbo 3.5 in the LS. 442 lt lbs torque and 416 horsepower. I would prefer a 5.0 or 5.7 V8 in the LC and Tundra but if they put the TT 3.5 in the 4R and Tacoma nothing would compete.

 

Right, I still think the regular 3.5 will be in lower trim levels and the one you are talking about in the higher ones.

I was hoping they would make a 1gr-fks. Just attach the upper end technology to the 4.0 displacement. Probably bump it up to right around 300hp with the added direct injection. And make some mpg gains couples with loser ration transmission. Toyota makes changes very incrementally. But they never go backwards. Of course they would probably like to consolidate the number of gasoline engines they have.

A small V8 would make this truck hella better. Didnt the Tundra have a 4.6 before?

3.5T in a Tacoma = Great, maybe even in a 4R, but anything bigger doesnt sound too good tbh.

 

Ha...for me, trading mine for the 2020 Taco will still be a downgrade in many ways..I'm gonna lose cinnamon heated leather seats, the torquey turbo diesel, Xenon lightlights, air suspension, panoramic moonroof that I've used like 3 times in the 8 years of ownership ;-)
HOWEVER, I'll save $$$ on the high cost of maintenance (even at Indy shop prices), and on-going minor repairs that seem to come up every month or so. I had extended warranty on mine which itself paid off past 50k (failed nos sensor in diesel tank so whole tank had to replaced by Stealership), some broke pulley up front which stalled the vehicle (another $1400 bill to extended warranty) but so far, the diesel engine/transmission itself has been rock solid... I've been asked many times by random people when they hear the diesel turbo and are surprised to know that BMW made diesel SUVs!

The irony is I had a Prerunner Taco which I sold to get the X5 and now I'm going back to the Taco. The X5 has been replaced by my wife's Denali as a human carrier now so going back to a truck again is a no brainer for me. Once a truck guy...always a truck guy!

 

Id prefer an updated 5.7 or a completely new V8 designed specifically for trucks and with room for future improvement.

 

I agree. Going to be a complete dog unless they install 4.88 gears.

 

Lol. I purchased a $3,000 warranty for my 335is which has already covered over $5,000 worth of repairs. I love BMW but I am done with them... for now. Maybe one day I'll get a nice one from the '90s that I can work on and enjoy.

Right! My choices for new vehicles were..BMW 328d sport wagon, diesel Colorado or Tacoma. My buddy has the X5 diesel with low miles, very nice suv. Typical BMW out of warranty reliability...that tipped me back to Toyota haha.

 

Not to nit pick but the 4.6 is the Ford mod motor. Yes, Tundras have the 4.7 V8 for the first gen and is an option to the 5.7 currently. It was also in the Sequia and installed in 4Runner from 02-08. It was designed from the beginning to be a truck engine with low end torque with a max of approx 310lbs. In the 4Runner, acceleration is almost effortless. Perfectly matched engine to a chassis in my opinion. I personally don’t have major complaints with the 4.0 in the current gen 4Runner or the 3.5 in the Tacoma, however I am a firm believer in low end torque in a truck which neither have.

 

4.6 is a Toyota engine, 1UR-FE. What do you mean Ford mod motor.
