I compressed mine slightly when I put plywood down to make storage. I monitored my electric bills and compared back against years and didn’t really see much of a difference in energy consumption. Although obviously my analysis was far from scientific and more observational. Either way, it was worth the added space. As someone mentioned above, make sure you seal your access very well. I bought one of those nylon tents above the drop down stairs and caulked it in —- it works really well at keeping the drafts down as confirmed by a thermal laser I used to test before and after.

If you do that I would frame it but leave the plywood deck off till after the insulation is blown in

Depending what you're using the garage for, I've seen a lot of guys use painted osb instead of Sheetrock for the walls. Gives you a little more freedom on mounting stuff to the walls being able to just screw into the osb

Ive started seeing people using the Sanded Plywoods too. My dad used OSB in the garage but its covered up in a lot of pegboard.

I also have seen a few people using Melamine White Panels for their walls. Easy to clean up dust and debris that gets flung on them

Yes. The fixture would be grounded at that point. However if the contact point from that fixture was plastic or some type of insulator and if a hot were to come loose and have contact with the metal box or any non grounded raceway that was bonded to the box, it would energize the box. Thus it would be be a safety issue and against code.

The fixture is metal as well as where the screws from the mounting bracket attach to the fixture.

I also put electrical tape around all my pigtails as a precaution and go down about 1/2 inch under the caps to get the wires secured together -- I also do this to the ground to lessen chance of them coming apart.

    Thanks!

    Any idea what this is?
It’s wall mounted and wired into 110, located in the AC closet, I’m unsure of where the outgoing wires go.

Thanks, I had just started looking into the doorbell parts because the 5V made me think it was related to the doorbell even though the speaker is across the hall and switch itself past that.

Holy chit, I've done a lot already!!
Obviously Oz is correct, and the go to for this sort of thing. To elaborate, remember that the ceiling you chose and the insulation, is also going to weigh down on the trusses. When I built my barn, I had trusses spec-ed for a ceiling. Although you may never see a problem, the trusses may not have been designed for the extra weight of just insulation and ceiling material, much less storage.

This. Then you would also get the fore rating as well. Was thinking about doing fire resistant paint as well.

You have a clean slate to start with and if you are adding electric outlets mount them 50" above floor. Then a sheet of plywood or other stuff won't bury it.

To add to this some AHJ requires 2x plaster board if a garage wall is connected to a living space. I'd check with your code people and make sure you only have to do it once.

Plaster redeemed the is for fire protection aka prolonged burn protection.
