How do you deal with those? Cutting torch? Impact wrench? Do any of the "siezed bolt loosening magic liquids" work -- or help? Regarding the alignment cams... does that mean will probably end up needing UCAs?

Cleaned the tires off so i could make sure they get balanced this time. And figured the truck needed a little love.

Have some lovely gum looking splatter down the passenger side but that'll just add to the topo scene.

Did you mean to say AAL on (stock) old leaf packs is too much for OEM shocks? I ran that for a little bit and didn't have problems, but that's because I was still pretty much riding the bump stops with that setup.

Sure, but it sounds like your rusty truck is going to be a pain to work on... So pick up some Liquid Wrench (or make your own homemade penetrating oil) and apply it to all of the bolts several days before the job.

Yes, my old roommate had to use a sawzall to cut the front bolt out of his Tacoma that had lived in Utah. I was fortunately with my California truck that I was able to install the entire suspension by myself with just hand tools and the longest breaker bar I needed was 10" long. No penetrating oil needed for me.
So, I would recommend adding either new front Toyota bolts/nuts to your order or, even better, get the greasable front bolts:

I agree. Also, on topic of the OME lift for @steve2267, here's how my truck looked 6 months after installing the OME suspension (881 coils and Dakar leafs) and having a full camping load in the back of probably 400 lbs including the 100lb commercial ARE shell. You can see it's sagging a decent amount with just that, so I would DEFINITELY start with the AAL installed to the Dakar leaf springs.



FYI - @steve2267 With the OME suspension, there are only one type of Nitrocharger shocks available for the front of our trucks, the 90004.

(I just learned this) For the rear, 60062 and 60065. I *think* you want the 60062, which is what I have due to the travel difference and the higher unloaded height with the AAL:

60062: 587mm (23.2 Inches) Extended
60065: 581mm (22.8 Inches) Extended​

Both are 356mm (14 inches) Compressed

Edit: Now I'm unsure about the 60062 vs 60065 because I see "FIRM" associated with the 60065...

 

I may ask Adam over in Utah what OME rear shocks he was running on his Box Rocket build. He had the D43XL extra leaf on his Dakars and regularly overlanded with 450+ lbs in the back. I suspect 60062's are what he ran, and what I think most everyone runs. With comments regarding length of rear shock popping up, I also suspect 60062's are the way to go. No one seems to be complaining about them. Other than the coilover (Fox/Icon/King) snobs. (Wish I could afford to be snobby to... but...)

So about to pull the plug on some Dakar HD's (Tax return money )

I currently have about ~250lbs on my rear end with RTT and bed rack. More weight will be coming with bumper/swingout etc.

On the OME website it says the HD's are meant to have 660lbs+ on them at all times. I don't know if the GVW is included in that or not, nor what will happen if I don't have that weight on there.

The Dakar SD's are supposed to be up to ~330lbs, which I am already almost there with my current weight.

Both packs say they provide 2" of lift at their specified weights.

Opinions on how I should proceed?
Get the HD's or SD's?
Consequences of not having the "specified" weight?
Also what additional parts will I need, (Ubolts and bushings is all I can think of)?

 

Get HD and if they really suck unloaded the hardware store has 50lb bags of gravel for like $3 each to run til you get the rear bumper and spare carrier on

 

What I was thinking as well with the Ubolt flip. @YamaDirtrider said we'd have to weld the bumpstop somewhere else I think.

I do have "extended travel" front and rear, thinking 10" total travel maybe? On the Hacket gultch run we thought my leafs were limiting my travel so not sure.

And why use pigtails when you can just double up each screw with #12 wire, not to mention the numerous nicks in the wire.

 

Wow. And that looks like relatively newer construction too. That’s scary as hell.

 

I drilled and tapped the flip plate and bolted wheelers bumps to it.

 

Just forgot to punch a few staples through the cables and it would of been a perfect install

If I were to do it all again, knowing everything I know now, I would probably have just sprung (hah) for Coilovers. Not definitely. The OME suspension has been great for all the 70+mph washboard in Death Valley that I have driven hours along, all the highway miles, etc. I will probably wait another year or two before upgrading to coilovers and better rear shocks.
