There is literally no way to tell how much that tranny needs. It may have been doing gymnastics over the years, but the bulk of the fluid is in the converter, anyway.

 

Gonna order tires this week, really stuck between 285/70/17 and 285/75/17 St Maxx's. What to get?

Well, I enjoy wheeling. I currently have 275/70/17s. A bigger tire would help on some of the trails in my area. I have 4.88 gears already so I think the truck can handle either size. The weight difference is only 5lbs per tire which is pretty minimal. Im worried about fit and extra wear.

5 lbs on a 50 lb tire is still 10%... It will add to the extra wear on the drivetrain, brakes even though you may not notice the power loss with 4.88's.

Ditch it. Wasn't on my truck when I bought it and I am glad. I've taken on/off ramps on the highway at 60 mph and haven't had an issue with body roll being terrible to the point where I thought it would actually lift.

Damn.... I put 20k a year on mine...

Have you looked at Nitto Ridge Grapplers or Toyo RT's? I know people running both in 33's, seem like a decent hybrid MT/AT. Only available in E range though, kinda sucks.

I drive a company truck to and from work so I typically only use the truck on trips.

 

Replaced PCV just "for fun" errr preventative maintenance. Turns out it was NOT FUN. SOB valve did not want to come out regardless penetrating oil and reefing on it with pliers, screwdrivers, vice-grips etc. After an hour and a half of cursing at it I was about to give in and button everything up when I googled one last time and read someone suggesting heating up the valve with a torch. Grabbed my shitty 10 dollar Horror Fraught "drill master" heat gun and gave it full blast for 30 seconds, yanked on the valve again with vice grips and that sucker GTFO'd, flew across the engine bay and landed on the skid plate below. I was relieved and pissed it was so easy with a bit of heat.

The grommet was hard but not fully petrified and stayed intact for valve removal. Had to bust it up in a couple bits to get it out of valve cover. Two chunks fell in there but got them out with long needlers and a shop vac. Total cost $8 from advance auto. Gonna be replacing at least that fucking grommet every year so it never hardens up and acts a little bitch again.

 

Update on the CarPlay.
Unless you are in Cell reception for most of your driving, it's pretty useless since most things are driven by Siri or are forced network calls for most apps and don't really support offline use... Like Spotify:


Google Maps
The angle of the screen relative to where my eyes are sitting in the drivers seat put the display at a great disadvantage for contrast and Google Maps during the daytime mode is barely legible for smaller surface streets.

Apple Maps
Same as with Google Maps - viewing angle makes it very hard to distinguish.

Head Unit Screen
I'm not sure if it's because of the Resistive Touch screen (not capacitive) having extra layers of plastic on top, but the daylight reflections make it REALLY hard to see.

Lastly, and my favorite problem (so far), is that when the head unit is set to AUTO setting for dimming (should dim when parking or headlights are on and be full brightness when parking/headlights are off) flickers a bunch when the dimmer knob is set at the perfect spot. That’s a little disappointing. There’s plenty of companies that make this stuff but why can’t anyone just make a factory look head unit with a knob, glass screen, doesn’t have light show and works well?
