Kumho MT KL71 or Cooper STT MT

Debating on the Kumho Ventures MT KL71 or the Cooper STT MT, will be getting 285/70/17.. which one with you choose? price and reviews ive read seems pretty close..

If it helps at all...... As an installer for Tire Rack I put a set of 35/12.50-17 Kumho KL71's on a truck a few months back. They took less weight to balance than most of the car tires I do. If I remember the WORST tire took 2.75oz of weight (inside and out combined) to balance.

My only measuring stick on tires is how true they turn and how well they balance. For a "budget" tire I've been very impressed with the Kumho brand.

 

thanks for the feedback.. i like the way both look and their price.. i wonder how both would compare when it comes to noise and at highway speeds

 

Now I dont have any personal experience but one of my Captains has had those Coopers on his Dodge pick-up truck and his Jeep Wrangler and he said they are great tires! I would go with those.

at 15k i can start to hear my stts

 

is it too loud? like hard to mask with some music?

 

nope not really that loud...and music can easily mask out the hum...along with all my other squeaks and rattles lol

 

I don't have the MTs, but I've got the Kumho ATs and they were almost impossible to balance. Not only that, but they have had the worst tread life of any tire I've ever had. I will have to get new tires before this winter and I haven't put 20K on them yet. Maybe I got a bad batch of tires, but I won't be gettin Kumhos again.

 

The Cooper's should be made in America, not sure on the Kumho's, so I'd pick the Cooper's. FWIW, I've bought 3 sets of Cooper road tires and they were all good tires.

 

Kuhmo's I believe are a Korean tire? At least that is what the guy at Appalachian tire told me. Both look great tho.

 

Cooper. Great brand. My dad has a set of ATRs on his truck and they are great too.

 

I got those Kumho MTs on my tacoma. I love them, they ride great and are fun in the mud too

 

yup, the only 2 tire manufacturers left in the US is goodyear and cooper.


might also want to check out cooper STs. not as aggressive as the STTs, but they're still a great lookin tire and look a lot more aggressive than most other ATs.

 

between the two i say kumho's.
