Usually, if a company does not have a business presence in the state they are shipping to they do not charge sales tax, as they are normally only authorized to collect sales tax for their own state. It can be a huge pain collecting sales tax for a small shop, WA alone has a TON of different tax jurisdictions and rates.

Legally, the end user is supposed to pay Use Tax to the state (if their state has sales tax), but i'd bet 99.99% of people don't do it. Businesses usually do, as they are far more likely to get audited.

That all changed in October, thanks to USSC decision in Wayfair vs SD. Many out of state online retailers have to collect sales tax now.

Regardless of what the end user decides to do, TB will not charge you tax.

Interesting, thanks for the extra info. Though at quick glance of the RCWs (i looked up the ones listed in your linked article) it sounds like the seller can just make note to the customer that they need to pay use tax, which once again puts it back on the person buying the product. I'm not saying you shouldn't pay use tax, I'm just saying that's how people easily get around paying sales tax by buying things from out of state online. Kinda like driving to Oregon from WA to avoid sales tax when you buy a big ticket item. Maybe WA should sue Oregon businesses for letting WA residents buy stuff down there without paying sales tax, haha. :)

Very cool to know. Every time I ordered online, I was being taxed. I now understands it seems it is up to the "business"/"buyer"

Not exactly up to the business. If they exceed $100,000 in sales or 200 shipments, per year, they are required to collect the tax. How that is enforced, caught, etc. is unclear.

$10,000 to $199,999 and they can choose to collect sales tax or notify about the requirement to pay use tax.

Less than $9,999 and they don’t even need to inform the customer about tax requirements.

A lot of the things listed on the website are not actually available to be sold.

Meaning to say I’d click a picture of say the cbi bolt on sliders and they are not available

We apologize for any inconvenience that you experienced while browsing our site. Our team has been making updates to the CBI product pages recently and we attempted to have them "hidden" until the updates were finalized. If there's anything I can you with in the meantime I am happy to do so!
