    Facts:

The DCSB looks the best but lacks in carrying capacity and usefulness
The DCLB looks too long unless you lift the fu*k out of it
The AC looks like the old single cab used to look but is the same length overall as the DCSB

    Hypothesis:
The Access Cab is the right choice - WINNER

    Thank you for stopping by!!!!

I've owned both. It's simple. If you plan to sleep in it, get long bed. If you don't, get short bed. Nothing else I wasn't able to comfortably do in the shortbed but sleeping was a joke, even diagonally. I did some decently aggressive bouldering in Tahoe rubicon trail area with the long bed and had more issues with brush and pinstriping than I did with approach and recovery angles. If you really do hardcore Jeep stuff in your Tacoma then I guess you already know the answer is shortbed.

PS I totally skipped six pages of this thread so if OP already left, well, sorry lol.

Have always had 6' bed. 89 & 99 xtra cabs and then 08 & 19 DCs. Came close to 19 Pro but couldn't go to the SB due to hauling longer stuff (furniture, building materials, landscaping supplies, etc.) frequently enough. I also like the look of the LB way more - just feels more substantial. Totally understand the maneuverability angle but tight trails aren't my gig. I was parked next to a suburban a few years ago and noticed my truck was basically the same length - I've always made it work and never regretted the longer bed.

I have had both and would say the only draw back to the short bed is proportionally it just doesnt look right. Like all short beds I guess IMO. But the manual transmission makes up for it and you are OK with a toy hauler trailer then short bed the win. Good luck

I find some angles make the 6’ loook odd, and some angles make the 5’ look odd. The pics above are from different perspectives. Maybe spend some time walking the lot and getting a sense of the “feel” if aesthetics are important.

I went short because my 70s-era garage is a tight fit. Long is nice for camping in the bed, though.

Kinda wish I would have went ACLB in manual. I've realized I'm not that popular so I don't need four seats, plus the back is pretty tight for adults anyways. It'd be nice to be able to sleep in the bed at 6ft.

Just drop the tail gate on the short bed and it's the same length ad the long bed lol.

Buy the one that best suits your lifestyle bro! The SB is missing the mid/lower horizontal belt line crease on the side of the bed aft of the rear door and forward of the rear wheel well; I've always wished Toyota would've put the "crease" on the SB like the LB. The horizontal crease continues aft of the rear wheel well terminating at the end of the bed ending at the top of the rear bumper, creating one continuous horizontal line.

Toyota would have to make doors specifically for use on DCSBs to accommodate that design.

I would never own a truck with a bed less than 6’. Not even a full size.

However I would be getting a trailer for the bikes and snowmobiles.

But if you are dead set on having them in the bed you absolutely need a long bed.
The tailgate cannot handle much weight without bending.

I don't follow your logic? The horizontal crease on the side of the LB is missing on the SB; see red circle.Image-1.jpg

To have that same crease on the DCSB, the crease would need to go on the passenger doors. Because it wont fit next to the short bed fenders. This means creating two versions of passenger doors, one for the DCSB and then the one for the DCLB. For simplicity, Toyota uses the same door for all the Double Cabs, Do you understand now?

Really comes down to a 13 inch difference. In my mind, not that much considering the overall length of AC(LB), DCSB, and DCLB.

Both had their advantages. The wheel base on DCSBs and ACs is way more comfortable to park and drive around tight spaces with.

DCSBs have an awkwardly small box and ACs have much less interior room.

I'd either go DCLB or Access cab because the bed is already midsize, dont need it to be any smaller.
