Yeah, gotta make the truck be able to detect imminent accidents because surely we can't hold people responsible for there own actions...not in Commiefornia.

See where you said “extensive laws”
We don’t need more bullshit laws or regulations or fancy stuff on our vehicles. We need more responsible humans

We all drive Toyota’s here. They all come from the factory with the Unintended Acceleration Package.

yes. make sure the skewp doesn't have performance enhancing drugs. because...well...it doesn't. its non-functional. just there for looks. its a placebo.

I don’t have guns stopping me from shooting people, I don’t have knifes stopping me from stabbing, nor do I have pressure cookers stopping me from bombing folks. So do I have the freedom? Yes I do, but we all know that’s not ok, just like we all know we should drive down sidewalks and mow folks down.

Agree we need more responsible humans, but every minute of every day someone is getting booked into jail for dui.
You have the free will to do so, but not the freedom to.

All the safety features currently being developed are precursors to fully autonomous vehicles.

Can you purchase a 2019 Tacoma without safety sense?

I imagine that once autonomous technology is fully online, it will not be possible to purchase a vehicle without it.

This guy made the choice to get behind the wheel under the influence, which likely led to unintentionally mowing people down. If someone is intent on killing people you can't do much. If a person gets behind the wheel of a vehicle while impaired technology may mitigate some of the damage that may be done.

This. Giving up personal responsibility and control for a false sense of security. I NEVER want a vehicle to drive, turn, or drive for me. I most certainly do not want this legislated into a requirement. The truck running over people is exactly the same as a gun shooting people. A person did that, not a truck. Eventually, why allow people to drive at all once the tech is there and solid? People are responsible for their actions and not many seem to understand that any more. Don't mess with my truck because someone else does something stupid with theirs.

But you have guns with mechanical safeties and pressure cookers with relief valves to prevent accidental or negligent unintended consequences.

once all cars are self driving capable, it will only those the are piloted by the human disease that will be dangerous and unpredictable. but no worries, we're making good inroad at wiping out the human disease, maybe even before its a problem.

So because of impaired people, I should lose the ability to control my vehicle as I want?

Never said that. All I've endorsed is a properly functioning technology that could slow or stop the truck when a collision is imminent.
