Easy way to tell if cam bolts are seized?

start spraying them with 50/50 aceone/atf, or Aerokroil every other day.

You won't know if the front LCA cam sleeves are seized until during installation. The LCA won't swing downward. It will spring back up and fight with swinging downwards if its stuck.

 

Get under there and try to move'em. They move, you're good, they don't budge, you're cutting. Either way the lca's will come out.

 

Maybe a dumb question: When you replace the LCA and the cams, what’s the trick to get the new cams close to where the old ones were so I can get to the alignment shop without too much trouble?

 

What would you want for the cams? I’ve got an ‘04.

 

Use a grease pen and carefully make 2-3 witness line markings across the cam to mounting gussets. As long as those witness lines all are returned to where they were, you’ll maintain the majority of existing camber and caster.

 

But I’d be replacing the cams as well. I guess I can make a witness mark on the new cam in the same place as the old one, so long as they’re the same, it should be close enough to get there.

 

That's what I did. I also took a pic of the witness marks before I started so I had a better idea of where I needed to be.

Each alignment cam has a pointer, mark the pointer to the frame with a paint pen.
